The news of the tragic death of the general

For the first time information about the death of Ivanov was reported by the official publication of the Ministry of Defense "Krasnaya Zvezda". On August 28, 2010, they posted an obituary on their official website, where they expressed their deep condolences on the death of the general.

The official version said dryly that Yury Evgenevich was on vacation and drowned during diving. The Turkish Coast Guard discovered a body of a dead man near its shores. It was attended by an Orthodox cross, and from this conclusions were drawn that the deceased belongs to the Slavic nationality. After the investigation, it became known that the discovered drowned man - the Russian General Ivanov Yuri. Moscow said goodbye to him on August 29, the former scout was buried with all the honors in the capital.

Conjectures about the mysterious death

At the time of his death Yuri Evgenevich was just 53 years old. This young man never complained of health and his imminent death did not bode well. Naturally, the statement about his death caused a lot of questions, and the most important: how the major-general drowned. In various information resources, information appeared that in fact Ivanov disappeared on August 6, and it happened in the Syrian city of Latakia. The GRU itself does not provide any comments regarding the death of its deputy chief. At the same time, the tragic death of Ivanov became a resonant event, which interested the journalists. They began to conduct investigations, and very many facts provided in official sources began to cause obvious doubts.

A strange holiday in Syria

It turned out that Ivanov actually disappeared in Syria on August 6, how exactly his search was being made - is unknown. According to the official version, he was there on vacation and, diving, dived, but did not come back. It happened in Latakia, which is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
The body was found in the Turkish province of Hatay, on the coast of Chevlik. After it was discovered by fishermen, the local police filed a request to the Russian consulate. But they answered that among the Russian tourists who arrived in Turkey, there are no missing persons.

Later it was found out that the search for the disappeared person is conducted by the neighboring consulate in Syria. According to them, in early August, a man named Ivanov disappeared, who actually arrived in Syria for a rest. But for some reason this Ivanov was listed as a Russian diplomat and arrived in their country on a diplomatic passport.

Conducting the next investigation, the staff of one of the Russian-language news agencies filed a request to Latakia on whether there is practicing diving for tourists. From the official answer it followed that diving services in this city are not provided.

Quite widely spread the version that in fact Ivanov arrived in Syria not at rest, but was there on the next job assignment. The fact is that in Syria, not far from Latakia, there is a well-known naval base in Tartus. It is used by the Russians as a maintenance center.

In addition, Latakia hosts another large naval base. In the past few years, it has been actively used by the Russian fleet, as well as Russian military intelligence as the main naval base. Its territory was used as a center where intelligence information is collected and exchanged, including Israel. Since such a base inspection was primarily unprofitable for the MOSSAD, many are making appropriate entries.

Probable participation of terrorists in the death of Ivanov

By the way, it is important to note that one version, which is put forward by journalists, is the murder of Ivanov by terrorists. A well-known fact is that for a long time the general was in charge of reconnaissance in the North Caucasus district. A fairly large part of his work took place on the territory of Chechnya. An indisputable fact is that on duty he had access to the most sensitive information. This was the reason why Ivanov was clearly unhappy with someone, and therefore he was eliminated, as soon as the convenient moment presented itself. In any case, since there are no official comments, all of the listed causes of death are only unconfirmed guesses.
