Functions of water in the human body

Each of us probably heard the phrase that the human body is more composed of water. Have you ever wondered why this is so? Why do you need such a large amount of fluid and in general what function does the water in the body?

Properties

Water has the following properties:

  • First of all, it is a good solvent (both for nutrients and toxic);
  • Fluidity;
  • Has a high heat capacity and thermal conductivity;
  • Can evaporate;
  • Is capable of hydrolyzing other substances (that is, substances decompose under its action or are cleaved in it).

Due to these basic properties, water performs a number of vital functions in the body of every living being. Let us consider them in more detail.

Functions of water in the body

The human body on average 75% consists of water. This correlation with age changes, unfortunately, in the direction of decrease.

Water, being the main component of all body fluids, in particular blood, in which more than 90% of it is contained, performs the following main functions:

  • Regulation of body temperature;
  • Removal of toxins and waste products;
  • Transport of nutrients and oxygen;
  • Assimilation and digestion of food products;
  • Transport function;
  • Amortization of joints and prevention of their friction;
  • Maintenance of cell structures;
  • Protection of tissues and internal organs;
  • Improvement of metabolism.

The functions of water in thermoregulation processes are to maintain a constant body temperature at the cellular level by evaporation and sweating. Due to its ability to carry a fairly large amount of heat, moisture, circulating in the human body, takes it where it is in surplus, and adds it where it is not enough.

Depreciation functions of water in the body are provided due to its high content in the synovial fluid of the joints. This prevents friction of joint surfaces during stress and joint work, and is also a specific protective buffer for possible falls and injuries.

Water performs the function of transporting the necessary connections due to its large surface tension. Thus, it can penetrate everywhere, even into the intercellular spaces, delivering the necessary nutrients to the organs and tissues and inducting the products of their vital activity.

It is generally accepted that the mental capacity of a person directly depends on the amount of fluid used . Dehydration threatens not only the decline of strength, energy, the appearance of headaches and dizziness, but also a decrease in efficiency, memory and the ability to concentrate on the right information.

Also, given that with age, the amount of water as a constituent of the body decreases, scientists assume a certain relationship between the amount of fluid and aging processes. Therefore, people of the older age group should carefully approach the water diet.

In recent years, the functions of water are increasingly observed in the prevention of many diseases, including cancer. It is believed that the more liquid we consume, the more it is excreted, and with it the pathogens, the products of their vital activity, toxins and carcinogenic substances, which can potentially be a springboard for the development of cancer.

Thus, all the functions of water are important for the normal functioning of all organs and systems and for a comfortable and healthy lifestyle.

Interesting, but true

The less water comes from the outside, the more it accumulates inside. This means that if you use irregularly and in inadequate quantities of liquid, then with its next intake the body delays the water, keeping it as if in reserve. Thus, a person not only self-exposes himself to a number of diseases, but also accumulates excess weight.

The first signal that your body gives about not getting water to them is everyone's known fatigue. If a long time does not compensate physiological fluid loss, then the person begins to feel an ache in the joints and discomfort in the spine. In the body, toxins accumulate, the immunity decreases, and the person becomes more prone to diseases, especially infectious.

Important!

Daily it is necessary to drink 1.5-2 liters of liquid. Regular reception of high-quality water will give you a feeling of an ebullience and vigor, digestion processes will improve, cease to disturb headaches and other uncomfortable sensations. You will not only feel better, but you will also necessarily look better.

It is recommended to drink a glass of water on an empty stomach. During the day the daily rate should be distributed evenly. It is better to drink non-carbonated water and room temperature.

Conclusion

The functions of water in the human body are diverse and numerous. Therefore, do not neglect such an important part of your diet. Use water in proper quantities and be healthy!
