Flag of Jordan: History and Significance

Several places in this country the Vatican recognized as sacred places. In the heart of this city you can see the ruins of buildings and roads. The settlement was nicknamed "the city of mosaics" - there are really a lot of them. In the city of Madaba there is a well-known archaeological park with many streets.

Perhaps the most visited place in this country is the Dead Sea. It is believed that it helps cure many diseases. It is for this reason that many tourists take the time to get here and feel the healing properties of the water. Interesting is not only nature, history, but also the national symbolism of the state.

Jordan on the world map occupies an important place in the Middle East. The country borders Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Palestinian National Authority. The geographical location influences the ongoing policy of the Hashemite dynasty and the economic situation. A small part of the border in the south has access to the Gulf of Aqaba of the Red Sea.

In 1928, the flag of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was officially approved and became an integral part of the national symbolism. The flag of Jordan has a rectangular shape, which consists of three bands arranged horizontally. The lower horizontal strip is executed in green, the middle one in white, and the upper one in black. An isosceles triangle of red color is located on the left side of the canvas, and in its center there is a seven-pointed star. The length of the flag is 2 times its width.

The national flag is also on the banner of the navy of Jordan at the top. The main canvas of the Navy of Jordan is white, and on the right half is a black anchor. It is crossed with a crescent and crowned with a crown.

The standard of the king of the state has a rectangular shape of white color, and in the center the national flag of the country is depicted. From the canvas of the flag there are 12 rays of black, red and green colors. The rays of these shades are grouped into four pieces.

The meaning of the flag

Every symbol in heraldry has its own meaning. Thus, the bands on the flag symbolize the caliphates of the Fatimids, the Umayyads and the Abbasids. The triangle of red color embodies the power of the ruling Hashimite dynasty, courage and resistance of the Ottoman Empire. The seven-pointed star symbolizes the first surah of the Koran. Seven rays represent:

  • Faith in one God.
  • Modesty.
  • Humanity.
  • National spirit.
  • Virtue.
  • Aspiration.
  • Social justice.

History of the flag of Jordan

The basis for the creation of the national symbol was the canvas, used by the leaders of the Arab resistance during the First World War. It was these people who fought for the freedom of the future kingdom from the oppression of the Ottoman Empire. The flag of Jordan was approved at a time when the state was called the Principality of Transjordan within the framework of the British mandate. In 1946, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was granted independence, but the flag was not changed.

The flag of the state is also on the arms of Jordan. The central part of the emblem consists of a disc of bronze color, which depicts an eagle.

The wings of the eagle are straightened, and behind them you can see the flag of Jordan. The heraldic symbol is surrounded by golden ears of wheat and a palm branch. The crown is crowned with the state's coat of arms, and its backdrop is a mantle of red color with a silver lining.
