Fiat Multipla: beauty or functionality?

In 1998, Fiat released a new model - Fiat Multipla, which was submitted as a fundamentally new class of cars. Is this fair? What features have allowed developers to make such a bold statement?

Exterior design

The first thing that immediately catches your eye is the design that gives the car a rather strange look. There is a feeling that the car just before selling cut off the top of the body and hastily welded some other, it's so dishonest it looks. On the other hand, there are no comrades for taste and color, so there are plenty of fans of such a bold decision.

But the advantages of the wildish at first glance design feel only when you sit in the cabin and feel an unusual space at shoulder level.

With prolonged use, you will also notice that during the rain you can open the window - water does not get inside practically.

And then comes the understanding that the main thing in this car is comfort for passengers and practical use, and luxury is a minor matter.

By the way, another rather strange feature of Fiat Multipla is that none of its windows can be completely opened. This is an obvious puncture from the developers of this model.

Interior design

And here designers supported the general concept of non-standard cars: in front there are three seats! Moreover, there are also three behind them! So at the same time in Fiat Multipla can comfortably accommodate six (!) People, and if necessary - all eight!

Also surprising is the position of the information block - in the center of the front panel, and directly opposite the rudder is the glove box. At first it seems very strange, and you think that it's simply impossible to get used to such. But after you travel a little, it becomes clear that this arrangement is the most convenient: you do not have to look "through the steering wheel" to the dashboard, and you do not need to reach the glove box - everything is at hand.

Looking into the trunk of Fiat Multipla, you can not be surprised at its immodest dimensions. And if you also fold the rear seats, then it gets a truly huge volume, which allows you to use it not only for family trips, but also for transporting large and heavy cargo.

Characteristics

After such a stormy description of the design of the car, you can imagine that its technical characteristics will somehow amaze you. But these are deceptive expectations. Under the hood is a fairly average 1.6-liter Bipower engine with a power of just one hundred horsepower. Its distinctive feature is that it can work both on gasoline and on methane. The volume of the gas tank is thirty-eight liters, and the gas cylinders are one hundred sixty-four liters. Because of its hybrid nature, this engine is one hundred and seventy kilos heavier than its gasoline counterpart.

In 2002, the Fiat Multipla was refined: the same "welded" body was replaced with a more conventional option. And you can not say that this has benefited the car. After all, the model itself has always been so different from other machines that a non-standard appearance has become an integral part of its general image.

In general, Fiat Multipla is a rather convenient family car, which can also be used to transport large loads.
