The wolf subspecies has an elongated and narrow body. The head is also slightly elongated. Representatives of the bear subspecies have a more compact and powerful body, a short muzzle and a wide skull. The height of the dog at the withers is no more than 57 centimeters, and the bitch does not have more than 53 centimeters.

The Samoyed Laika has a soft and thick wool coat, which reliably protects it from frost, snow and rain. It has several kinds of different hair, so it is very fluffy and heavy. Undercoat is short and dense. The males in the neck area have a powerful collar. The standard is snow white, sometimes there are light golden, fawn or cream spots. Lips, nose and eyelids are always black.
