Elevated leukocytes in urine in pregnant women

The elevated white blood cells found in the course of compulsory medical examination and delivery of tests in the urine of a pregnant woman are grounds for the appointment of an additional examination. The task of diagnostic measures in this case is to assess the efficiency of the kidneys and to determine the possible presence of foci of inflammation. On the basis of the results obtained, the doctor will prescribe the necessary treatment to eliminate the undesirable condition.

Elevated leukocytes pose a certain threat to a pregnant woman. As observations show, only two hours are enough for the pathology to "capture" the whole organism. Often this condition is preceded by heavy bleeding.

Leukocytes are a special group in which cells differ in appearance and have different functions. Their main common task is to provide protection. Leukocytes are able to produce antibodies that take an active part in the functioning of the immune system. These cells are able to destroy any pathological (harmful) elements that get into or are in the blood.

Elevated white blood cells in the urine during pregnancy can indicate the formation of an inflammatory process in the bladder or the development of a disease such as cystitis. If the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment is performed. As practice shows, during pregnancy, getting rid of cystitis is carried out within ten days.

Elevated white blood cells can also indicate a disease like pyelonephritis. In this case, the timely detection of pathology is very important. Treatment in the early stages of the disease allows you to quickly eliminate it, preventing undesirable consequences, which is important for a pregnant woman.

An increase in white blood cells in the urine during the period of gestation may indicate the presence of another extremely unpleasant disease - thrush (candidiasis). It should be noted that a pregnant woman is more susceptible to this disease, rather than non-pregnant. Most often, thrush develops on late gestation. In many cases, along with a yeast-like fungus-causative agent of candidiasis, other microorganisms are detected. If it is impossible to detect their type (which happens in extremely rare cases), a traditional (standard) regimen of antibiotic treatment is prescribed to eliminate the disease. Of course, in each case of development of pathology, the individual characteristics of each patient are taken into account. When appointing these or other means, the duration of pregnancy is taken into account.

Concentration of leukocytes is an important indicator not only in the analysis of urine, but also blood. During pregnancy, their content is an important component of a woman's health. The concentration of leukocytes in the blood depends on the rate of their formation in the bone marrow relative to the rate of their transition into the tissue.

When pregnancy is normal, the figures range from 4.0 to 9.0 units. A slight increase in leukocytes in the blood is considered normal in the second half of the gestation period. Concentration can increase with pain, emotions, after eating, after muscle activity.

However, an increase in the level of leukocytes in the blood of a pregnant woman (leukocytosis) may indicate the development of inflammation. Among other reasons, causing an increase in the concentration of these cells should be called bacterial and viral infections in an acute form, internal bleeding. In addition, the increase of leukocytes in the blood is promoted by renal colic, allergic reactions, liver diseases.

It should be noted that the earlier the cause of leukocytosis is revealed, the better the treatment will be, the less likely the development of undesirable consequences for the future mother and her child.
