Electoral debates and their significance in a democratic society

Each of us is a witness of how, with certain periodicity, the term of elections to the legislative and executive power comes, when for the population of our country it is possible to use the right of choice and honestly fulfill their civic duty to the country. In the Russian Federation, elections are conducted both at the levels of local councils and in the Supreme Council. In addition, once in 5 years, the presidential elections of our country are held, and all registered candidates arrange, as a rule, pre-election debates.

During the entire period of political agitation, candidates have the right to place their posters on advertising platforms, publish in the press, hold meetings with voters, and develop their own political programs. However, the greatest interest among all events of this type is caused by the electoral debate on the air in the majority of the population, when the whole country gets an opportunity to objectively evaluate one or another candidate for the seat in the executive or legislative power.

The ability to speak and correctly formulate one's thoughts is an obligatory requirement not only for the candidate for any election post, but also for all people whose activities are connected with public speeches. In addition, charisma and external attractiveness are also important, since a person should call on voters trust and respect. It is in this case that it is likely that a large part of the population will vote for such a person. The pre-election debates make it possible to understand all the features of the pre-election program for the development of the country or the region (if elections to local councils), and also gain weighty arguments in favor of this program.

Typically, most of these meetings are held in a one-on-one situation, when two candidates directly communicate, but in some countries political debates may be of a different nature and held in the format of communication of three or four candidates simultaneously. At present, the media have received a very large development, and therefore the format of such "political battles" most often includes the following persons:

- Lead (or two leading);

- direct candidates;

- their supporters and opponents from among the population who are in the studio of the channel;

- a number of experts on various issues (scientists, specialists, doctors and so on).

Electoral debates most often cover acute social aspects of ordinary citizens' lives, and also touch upon many unresolved issues. Unfortunately, many candidates are able to cunningly manipulate the population, promising, in case of election, a quick resolution of a painful problem. However, after the elections, most often such questions remain unresolved, and many people once again pledge themselves not to believe the empty promises of candidates.

In addition to direct meetings of candidates among themselves quite often they are invited to the studio for the possibility of an open telephone conversation with the population. In this case, each person has the opportunity to call, ask a question or share a painful problem. It is very important for a simple voter to be heard, so sometimes a complicated problem is solved with the generous hand of the candidate.

Interesting can also be listening to meetings of the State Duma, where parliamentary debates precede the adoption of important government bills and by-laws. In this case, you can personally verify which party and in how many deputies vote for a particular project, as a result of which they independently draw conclusions about this or that political flow.
