Easel painting as a cultural heritage of the planet

The name "easel painting" comes from the main element, or instrument, which takes part in the creation of paintings. Of course, we are talking about an easel, which is less often called a machine. On its surface is attached a canvas or a sheet of paper, on which after the paints are applied. Easel Painting - this is all the paintings that are currently available in museums and private collections around the world. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to imagine the number of all genres and varieties that are the basis of this kind of art.

Modern art historians have decided to divide the painting into different subspecies, which are named according to the technique of painting, as well as the type of paints that are used. As a result, a kind of chronology was formed, because in the course of time newer and newer types of colors appeared. Easel painting of the ancient world, the era of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance is divided into two sub-groups - tempera and oil. The artist either used dry, that is, tempera paints that diluted with water, or used oil, as well as a variety of chemical solvents for them.

Temperamental easel painting is a complex science that requires a lot of skills, as well as great patience of the master who writes the picture. In ancient times, tempera colors were mixed with various natural products, including yolks and egg whites, honey, wine and so on. Undoubtedly, water was added to this composition, as a result of which the paint soaked and became suitable for application to the canvas. Tempera colors could form a beautiful and unique pattern only if they were applied in separate layers or small strokes. Therefore, for a temperamental art form, clear lines and transitions, clearly delineated boundaries and the absence of smoothly shifting shades are characteristic. Due to the fact that the tempera colors are dry, they can start to crumble. Also, many works of art on a temperamental basis faded, losing their former colors and shades.

Oil easel painting originates in the fourteenth century, when for the first time for the creation of its masterpieces oil was used by Dutch artist Van Yang. Oil paints are still used by all world artists, because with their help you can transfer not only the color transitions in the picture, but also make it voluminous and lively. Paints on natural oils can be applied in layers of different thicknesses, mixed and made with smooth color transitions. This allows the artist in the full spectrum to lay out his emotions and emotions on the canvas, to make the picture rich and unique.

But, despite all its merits, oil with time, like tempera, loses its color qualities. The main drawback of such paints are also the craquelures that appear on the surface of the paintings. Cracks can form on transitions from one color to another, turning the picture into a fragmented "stained-glass window". Therefore, easel painting, painted in oil, is varnished, so the picture can be preserved in its original form for a longer period.

Modern painting, whose genres have become much more diverse and innovative, is very different from the art of the past. However, despite more progressive materials and colors, the paintings of our days do not look so alive and full of emotions and emotions as works of art of the past centuries.
