Each picture of Renoir is an image of the mood

Pierre Auguste Renoir is considered one of the brightest representatives of impressionism, and although this direction is not the only one in his work, I want to talk about it.

Characteristics

Impressionism arose after the advent of the daguerreotype, which, like the classical manner of painting, preserved and showed in minute detail all the details of the photograph. Impressionists were forced to look for new ways of depiction. They began to focus not on form, color, social orientation or morality. Impressionism is, first of all, spirit, mood, impression. It is not by chance that the Impressionists, in particular Auguste Renoir, began to paint the pictures outdoors, and not in the studio, as was the custom of the old school artists. Refusal of black paint is also a distinctive feature of this style. Mixing and imposing different shades of five colors on each other achieved the necessary depth and volume.

Manner painting Renoir

How to distinguish the manner in which Renoir worked? The description of this painter's paintings is often accompanied by such words as "haze", "veil", "shroud", etc. Look at one of the artist's favorite works - "The Society in Berneval". This picture of Renoir was with him for the rest of his life. It's not just that it depicts people dear to him, the sons of Jean and Pierre and Julie Manet with cousins, to whom he had paternal feelings, but also in the calm and serenity that radiates the summer landscape.

«The girl in a hat»

In general, the Impressionists tried to portray life as a series of holidays. For this they were condemned by contemporaries. People wanted to see instructive plots, an occasion for reflection, a moral lesson - something that they are used to in traditional painting. Renoir's painting "The Girl in the Hat" has a blurry outline, soft, flowing lines. In it there is no character, passion, a young person the painter asked to sit down, to keep on the canvas a fashionable hat. The girl sits, with her head on her arm unconstrained, her calm and interested look. It seems that the artist is telling something interesting. She even forgot about her new charlotte hat. Most likely, the girl knows the artist well. Art critics believe that this is the daughter of one of Renoir's friends, and posing for a portrait is not new to her.

"Girls for piano"

The artist depicted women, girls and children with great love. The subjects were often repeated. He worked on one topic many times. Renoir's painting "Girls for pianoforte" in several versions is kept in different museums around the world. One of them, from the collection of O. Krebs, can be seen in the Hermitage. In the world there are five or six paintings of Renoir with this story. The Hermitage exhibited a work that could be considered unfinished, if it were not signed by the artist. Apparently, this picture of Renoir was written under the influence of Debussy's music, who in those years was looking for ways in the timbre of sound to convey the transparency of the colors of nature. The canvas is written in oil, but light colors, a harmonious combination of warm and cold colors create a feeling of watercolor painting.

"Umbrellas"

Renoir lived almost 80 years, and, if not for periodic health problems, his life could be considered quite happy. But this is not entirely correct. Creativity gave him and sorrows. At the dawn of Impressionism, he was treated with disdain. The first exhibition of 1874 failed, and the young artists were named "impressionists" as an insult. Famous "Umbrellas" - a typical example of creative searches Renoir. X-ray analysis of the canvas showed that the painter had several times completed the painting. The right part of it has not changed and is executed in an impressionistic manner, but on the left side there is more similarity with the photograph. The painter corrected the lines and made them clear, with pronounced borders. Moreover, following the fashion, initially he portrayed the lady in the foreground in the hat, and later removed it. The dress of this lady was also replaced.

Not much time passed, and Auguste Renoir became a respected representative of the Impressionist school in his country and throughout the world, and France became the birthplace of this beautiful style.
