At first sight the American pit bull terrier gives the impression of a strong, freedom-loving and tireless creature. Fighting and strong-willed qualities, these dogs owe their ancestors - a Staffordshire terrier and a bulldog.

Pitbulls have a strong physique with well-developed muscles, the weight of the individual can reach a quarter of a centner, the height at the withers is 50 centimeters. The length of the body is usually slightly larger than the height, however females can have a longer body. Distinctive features of this breed are a wide neck, turning into a muscular deep chest, a muzzle with powerful jaws and broad cheekbones. The color of the dog can be almost anything, the coat is short, glossy, closely adjacent to the body.

Contrary to popular belief, the pit bull dog represents a serious danger rather for its fellow dogs, to the person it treats with friendliness and respect. Since these animals were originally derived primarily to participate in dog fights, it took a long time to make their temper less aggressive.

Today, the pit bull dog is an excellent hunter, guard, shepherd, defender and just a friend. Active, mobile and hardy dogs take prizes in competitions. And recently this breed is increasingly used as service dogs.

Dogs are naturally endowed with developed intelligence, sociability, intelligence, incredible liveliness and a sense of responsibility. At the slightest danger, the dog can rush at the enemy, defending his beloved master and completely without fear for his own life.

Educated representatives of this breed get along well with children, quite adequately treat strangers, if they, of course, do not show cruelty and aggression. Dog pitbull has an excellent instinct, a hostile person recognizes immediately and can without undue hesitation to teach the attacker. Dogs of this breed are very devoted to a loving owner, try in every possible way to earn attention and please him.

American pitbull Terrier needs constant physical exertion, many hours of walking in the fresh air. Sharing in a city apartment, as well as a chain tether, can lead an animal into a state of embitterment.

Education of the pit bull

This breed of dogs just needs to be properly educated and trained, as the fighting roots and natural instincts can still make themselves known. Pitbulls are recommended to be introduced only to experienced dog breeders, since dogs require constant control and professional treatment. Care and Feeding

American pit bull terrier does not require special attention. It is enough to bathe it once a half a year and comb the hair from time to time. You should always monitor the cleanliness of the eyes and ears, wiping them with a cotton swab, slightly moistened with warm boiled water. Claws need to be cut off periodically with a special tool (claws).

Puppies are fed up to three months 5 times a day, up to 6 months - 4, up to 12 - 3, and after the first year of life the dog should be fed only 2 times a day.

To maintain good health and excellent physical shape, the pit bull diet should be rich primarily with proteins. Therefore, puppies and adults should be fed dairy products, raw beef, boiled chicken or pork. Gradually in the diet of the pet you can include various cereals and dry food, add vegetables, fruits and eggs.
