Do you want to get a natural tan and not be exposed to the sun? Scientists have found a way out

Scientists have developed a new drug that allows you to get a tan and do not even go out. You are probably wondering why scientists spend their time on something as insignificant as a good tan, rather than looking for, for example, a cure for cancer? Skeptics should know that only in the United States from melanoma every minute one person dies. In this case, 86% of cases of melanoma are caused by exposure to ultraviolet solar radiation.

And yet people are still refusing sunscreen or oil and prefer to sunbathe for a long time under direct sunlight. The mind is incomprehensible.

Preparation for melanin production

Researchers from the Massachusetts hospital in the United States have created a drug that stimulates the production of melanin - a natural protection of the skin from ultraviolet rays. Thus, this tan is natural, not artificial.

Spray for tanning and artificial sunburn can look natural (and this is certainly a safe option), but such a means can not stop the sun's rays. But tests conducted by researchers showed that melanin, which is produced under the influence of their drug, successfully protects the skin from ultraviolet rays.

The team hopes that this scientific breakthrough will help reduce the negative impact of UV radiation, which leads, for example, to premature aging and skin cancer.

"Our real goal is a new strategy to protect the skin from UV radiation and cancer," said Dr. David Fisher, who led the study. "The dark pigment is associated with a lower risk of developing all forms of skin cancer."

How it works?

Under the influence of ultraviolet, our skin naturally begins to protect itself from harm, triggering a chemical reaction that leads to the production of melanin by the body. It is a pigment that gives the hair, skin and eyes a dark color. That's why people who live in a warmer, sunny climate, often have dark skin and the same hair.

The drug, developed by scientists, should be rubbed into the skin to stimulate the process of producing melanin. So far, it has been tested only on mice and skin samples, although the results suggest that it can work even on redheads whose skin pallor is caused by a genetic mutation that prevents the production of melanin, that is, they are much more susceptible to a dangerous tan.

What increases the risk of developing cancer

On average, the risk of developing melanoma in a person doubles if it is sunbathing more than five times. According to statistics, every fifth American at some point in his life begins to develop skin cancer. In addition, more new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year in the United States than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer combined.

A golden shade of the skin, obtained with the help of a solarium, is also not worth the risks associated with it. Every year in the US alone, more than 419,000 cases of skin cancer are associated with the use of this type of artificial sunburn. People who used the solarium 10 times or more, increased the risk of developing melanoma by 34 percent, compared to those who never visited it.

In the end, researchers want to combine their drug with sunscreen to get maximum protection from the sun. But until it becomes available to the masses, daily creams should be used with SPF15 or higher, as this reduces the risk of developing melanoma by 50 percent.
