Dmitry Bobrok is a talented Russian voevoda. Life and work of Dmitry Bobrok Volynsky

Russian history keeps for us many names of remarkable people. One of them became the Russian prince and talented commander Dmitry Bobrock Volynsky. Consider the fate of this man in more detail.

Brief biographical information

Dmitri Bobrok came from Volhynia, hence his nickname. The date of his birth is not known exactly. It is assumed that this was a prince who did not have his lot, who 20 years before the start of the Battle of Kulikovo moved to Moscow and began to serve the Moscow princes. Thanks to his intellect and diplomatic skills Dmitry Mikhailovich took the leading positions among the then-Moscow boyars.

He took part in the Kulikovo battle in 1380, commanded the ambuscade regiment, which struck unexpectedly for the troops of Khan Mamai and determined the Russian victory.

His name is mentioned for the last time in the Russian chronicles of 1389.

There is a version, expressed by the historian VL Yanin, that Prince Dmitry in the 90s. XIV century retired to the monastery, where he took monastic vows under the name of Dionysius. The historian found a handwritten document describing the death of Prince Dionysius of Volhynia in one of the monasteries that occurred before 1411. The reason for such a deed of the prince was most likely the tragic death of his youngest son (by the name of Vasily) as a result of an accident that led to the decision to remove prince Dmitry and his wife Princess Anna from the worldly life.

The family of the prince

Many of his contemporaries remembered Prince Dmitry Bobrock Volynsky, a short biography of this man, however, did not reach us in full.

Information about his family is extremely sparse. It is known that Dmitry Bobrok was married twice. The name of his first wife is unknown, most likely, she was born, like the prince himself, from Volhynia. It is believed that in this marriage, Dmitry had children, two sons lived to adulthood and became the ancestors of two noble families: the Volyn and Voroniy-Volynskys.

It is assumed that the second time Dmitry Bobrok was married to the sister of Prince Dmitry Donskoy - Anna. In this marriage, too, children were born, but all of them died, who in infancy, who as a result of an accident (like the son of Dmitry Vasily, who fell from his horse and died to death).

There is a version according to which, one of the sons of Prince Dmitri was Michael Klopsky, later ranked as a saint. However, some historians believe that this saint was not the son, but the grandson of the prince (the son of his son named Maxim).

Versions about the origin of the prince

There are a lot of similar versions. Some historians, for example, believe that Prince Dmitry came from the clan of the Rurik people, and just in time his branch of descent fell into decay, and Dmitry Mikhailovich was forced to come to the service of the Moscow princes.

Other historians associate its origin with the Gedeminovich family. However, this version is not currently supported by historians.

Finally, there is the latest version, according to which, Dmitry Mikhailovich received the title of prince in Moscow, as a result of his marriage with his sister Dmitry Donskoy. In this case, historians suggest that Prince Dmitry Ivanovich greatly appreciated the merits of Dmitry Mikhailovich Volynsky, and therefore he allowed him to bear the name of the prince.

The Battle of Kulikovo Field

The most important episode in the life of Prince Dmitry was the famous Russian battle, it was thanks to her that he entered Russian history as a successful general. "The Tale of the Mamai Battle", written right after the events of 1380, calls Dmitry "the great commander."

The ambush regiment, commanded by Prince Dmitry, entered the battle in 5 hours after the start of the main battle, when both Russian and Tatar-Mongol forces were already weakened. Moreover, the prince was able to accurately calculate both the time of the strike and the place of impact, which earned him the special praise of Prince Dmitry Donskoi. After all, as a result of the actions of the ambush regiment, the Horde cavalry was defeated - the most powerful weapon of the Mamai troops.

Historians believe that Prince Dmitry Bobrok before the battle gave a vow to God that if he survived in a deadly battle, he would do everything to found a new monastery. Remained alive, the prince kept his promise and built a Bobrene monastery not far from Kolomna. It exists until now and represents both historical and cultural value.

The significance of the prince's activity

Prince Dmitri was also a resolute, brave military leader, and loyal servant of Prince Dmitry Donskoy. Russian chronicles characterize him with an exceptionally positive side. Entering the service to the Moscow princes, Dmitry Mikhailovich was able to realize his generative gift, thereby strengthening Moscow's authority in confronting the Golden Horde and collecting Russian lands in a single state.

Therefore, the question of our contemporaries about what Prince Dmitry Bobrock Volynsky was like, who did what, we can confidently give the following answer: Prince Dmitry was a brave warrior, a wise boyar who really served his Fatherland. Therefore, his name will remain in the ages.
