Darwin Museum in Moscow. Darwin Museum, Moscow - address

The Darwin Museum in Moscow is one of the largest and most technically equipped in the world. The initiator of his discovery was the professor of zoology of the Moscow State University, Alexander Fedorovich Kotts. The year of its foundation is 1907, because it was at this time that the professor began to give lectures at the Moscow Higher Women's Courses using scarecrows as visual aids. The room for the museum was allocated by the Bolsheviks, who came to power in 1917. During the Civil War, there was not enough money to open the exposition, so the room opened its doors to visitors only in 1822. The Darwin Museum acquired a director in the person of Alexander Fedorovich Kotts, who remained unchanged until 1964. An important role in the formation of the exposition was played by Friedrich Lorenz, the owner of the largest taxidermy company. Scarecrows made by his company were decorated with museums in Europe and made up the bulk of the exhibition of the Darwin Museum.

New building for the Darwin Museum

In the early 40-ies the museum's exposition expanded, and it ceased to accommodate a small building. The question arose about the construction of a new spacious building. Cotesa, was able to achieve a positive result. The decision to build a new building was made, but until its implementation there remained no less than three decades. The foundation of the future museum was laid in the early 80-ies of the last century. But the construction was conserved and turned into one of the most famous in the capital long-term construction. The new building was built extremely long and was completed by the massive pressure of the then Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov. In 1995, the new Darwin Museum was opened , address: Vavilov Street, 57.
