Colic in newborns - how to help the baby?

One of the first troubles that almost 70% of young parents face are colic in newborns. They are associated with a functional disturbance of the baby's digestion. It arises from the immaturity of the enzymes involved in the digestion and assimilation of food. And the colic in the newborn does not mean that the child is not healthy. Simply during this period, young parents need to get more patience and strength.

Symptoms

In most cases, intestinal colic in newborns appears at the age of 3-4 weeks and lasts up to 3-4 months. Many parents may notice that later in the evening (at 17-19 hours) the baby begins to show concern, shriek and shout loudly, press the legs to the stomach. As a rule, all these signs are a consequence of the pain caused by gases in the intestines of the child.

At first, colic in newborns occurs once or twice a week with a duration of 15-20 minutes. Over time, they are repeated more and more often, and their duration is gradually increasing. In the end, colic begins to disturb the baby almost every day.

Colic in newborns what to do?

In order to facilitate the state of the child, parents need to follow certain recommendations:

  • Before you start feeding, the crumb should be placed on the tummy - this position contributes to a faster escape of gases, which provoke severe pain in the intestines during meals.
  • If you have pain, you can warm your tummy with a warm iron cloth ironed.
  • At the time of an attack of intestinal colic, it is necessary to do a baby a stomach massage, stroking it clockwise.
  • Do not forget that if a kid incorrectly takes a pacifier, along with food or water, he swallows and air.
  • With artificial feeding, you can buy special anti-coil bottles and nipples, which regulate the rate of intake of the mixture, depending on how fast the sucking occurs.
  • The whole process of feeding should take place in a calm environment - without fuss and haste.
  • With natural feeding, the mother should exclude from her diet those products that cause gas formation and fermentation. These include: tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, beans, chocolate, milk, kvass, fresh bread, etc.
  • After eating, you need to hold the baby in a column so that the air that gets into the air goes out.
  • If such measures as warming and stroking the tummy do not help, you can use a gas pipe.
  • Very well proven tea with fennel, which is sold at the pharmacy, or simple dill vodichka, which you can cook at home on your own. To do this, 5 grams of dill seeds should be poured into 100 ml of water and cook the broth on a water bath for 20 minutes. The resulting water should be topped up to 100 ml and leave to stand. Give the child a few spoons throughout the day.
  • Of the synthetic drugs that you can advise in the pharmacy, you can use drops "BebiKalm", "Subsimplex" or suspension "Espumizan". But these drugs can cause allergies, so their use is only possible on the advice of a doctor!

When using all of the above recommendations, colic in newborns can bypass your baby's side or at least not cause him severe pain.
