Black Baccarat - a rose with a unique shade

For a long time, from about the end of the XIX century, breeders from different countries put a lot of effort, trying to get a rose of black color. In the process of work, a large number of varieties of this majestic flower was created, but the true black color of the petals could not be obtained. The darkest shades of pomegranate, cherry and ruby colors have such varieties as Ink Spots, Mildred Scheel, Barkarole, Black Magic.

But, according to the selection of breeders and lovers, the owner of the most saturated and velvety color is the Black Baccarat - a rose whose flowers are dark cherry, almost black in color.

History of the variety

As already mentioned, many well-known breeders worked on removing roses with black petals. But to date, the most successful and successful were the French scientists from the company Meilland Star Rose. They held the first presentation of the new Black Baccara black rose at the Moscow International Flower Exhibition in 2000, and already in 2003, a rose-colored tea-hybrid Black Bakkara appeared in the flower market, attracting the attention of both large flower-growing companies And simple lovers and collectors with their ruby-black color. A variety named MEIdebenne from the Meilland breeder is registered.

Flower Features

The most vivid and expressive black color is found in roses of the Black Baccara variety in undecayed buds, as well as in unfavorable weather conditions, such as summer heat with the indices above +30 0 С or a stable autumn cooling with low night temperatures. But the darkest shade of the rose Black Baccarat (reviews of this testify) acquires when growing on acidic soils. If the bush grows in the sun, then the predominant color is burgundy-red, but in the penumbra the velvety-black hues will appear brighter. As well as with most roses intended for cutting, this variety has a very weak, hardly perceptible aroma. Black Baccarat is a rose that has a dense and cup-shaped but not very large bud, its diameter rarely exceeds 10 cm. The tips of the petals are slightly pointed, and in the heat they can "melt", folding inside. Unlike many roses of English breeding, these flowers are resistant to rain and even after heavy downpours do not lose their shape and beauty.

Rose Black Baccarat: description

This rose forms an upright or semi-sporadic bush with a height of 90 to 120 cm and a width of about 70 cm. A feature of Black Baccara is the small number of spines compared to other tea-hybrid varieties. The angular and pointed leaves of this plant are green, with a slight reddish tinge. Black Baccarat is a rose, quite resistant to winter cold, but, like other heat-loving plants, needs shelter in the middle of Russia.

Planting and care

You can plant tea-hybrid roses in the open ground in both autumn and spring. Autumn planting is recommended in regions with mild winters, but in the central and middle lane, not to mention Siberia and the Urals, spring is preferable. It is worth remembering that the seedlings are very sensitive to temperature changes and the bright sun, so for the first few weeks, until the rose roots and adapts to a new place, it is better to cover it with film for the night.

Black Baccarat is a rose, in care that is not different from other varieties. It also needs to weed and loosen, feed and water, tie up and fight diseases and pests.

Watering plants should be carefully, trying not to get on the leaves, warm, preferably with standing water. The best time for watering is the time before sunrise or after sunset. Mulching the soil around the bushes not only delays moisture, but also depresses the weeds. Roses of all sorts and kinds respond very well to fertilizing, the first of which is carried out with nitrogen-containing fertilizers to stimulate growth after new plants adapt, and from old bushes the winter shelter will be removed. The second time fertilize when the growth of shoots begins. You can use ready-made fertilizers with a full range of trace elements or feed and sprinkle bushes with an aqueous solution of wood ash, which contains all the substances necessary for the growth and development of roses. When the buds begin to form buds, they are fertilized with water infusions of bird droppings or manure. The final top dressing with potassium fertilizers is carried out after the end of flowering, in order to prepare the plants for the winter.
