Childhood

Ivan Nikolaevich Pavlishchev was born in the capital in April 1889. As a child, the boy was transported to Ukraine. His father worked in Kiev as a manager in trade. When Ivan is seven years old, his father dies.

At a young age, as a schoolboy, Ivan became interested in theater and became a participant in the performances of the Lepkovsky drama school. Since the gymnasium was not allowed to play on stage, Pavlishchev had to abandon his father's surname and take the pseudonym Bersenev.

Ivan, after graduating from high school, enters the Kiev University, the faculty of jurisprudence, simultaneously plays in plays. Gradually, the desire for creativity is stronger, and in 1907 the young man leaves his studies at the university and enters the Solovtsov Theater in Kiev. Its leader is K. A. Mardzhanov, the meeting with which became the decisive event in the life of Ivan Nikolayevich Bersenev. Subsequently, Bersenev moves to Kote Mardzhanov for the theater of Odessa and plays in it, as well as in Yekaterinodar, Vinnitsa and other provincial towns in 1908-1909, mainly performing main roles (for example, Rode in Chekhov's play Three Sisters).

Activity in mature years

In 1911 Ivan Nikolayevich Bersenev entered the Moscow Art Theater. For the period of work until 1919, the actor played about twenty roles.

The hungry winter in Moscow in 1918-1919 prompts Berseneva to tour with the Moscow Art Theater troupe. While working in Kharkov, the troupe with Kachalov V. I. headed off from Moscow in connection with the Civil War, and the wanderings of the Kachalov group began first in the southern part of Russia, then abroad. Only in May the 22nd group returns to Moscow. In December of this year, Ivan Nikolayevich was invited by an actor and board member to the First Studio of the Moscow Art Theater, in 1924 Bersenev became assistant to M. Chekhov, director of the Second Studio of the Moscow Art Academic Theater, then deputy director, and finally the director and art director of the theater. Bersenev's director's work was first seen in 1925.

Ivan Nikolayevich gently and faithfully loved and idolized his wife, until he met Galina Sergeevna Ulanova.

In 1949 Bersenev met a great ballerina Galina Ulanova, who was 21 years younger than him, they lived in a civil marriage. Bersenev was so in love that he left his formerly beloved Sofya Hyacintov and began to meet Ulanova in the Metropole, then moved to her house in Novoslobodskaya. I broke off relations with his lawful wife Ivan Nikolayevich hard, very much suffered from his own betrayal, but he could not resist the magnificent Ulanova. Galina's relationship with the famous director and actor lasted only two years. The novel was bright and impetuous.

The whole restless life of Bersenev was connected with the necessity in the theater. The theater was its air, every performance - a holiday, a triumph. He remembered the thousands of his daily duties on the part of the leading person, about all the actors, their problems and their roles, the words of which constantly muttered. He was an artist of a bright personality, showing a sea of fantasy and witty decisions, full of creative ideas, endowed with a rich inner world.

Ivan Nikolayevich was harsh and unfair and sharp, but his passion, obsession and devotion to the theater overshadowed Bersenev's negative qualities.

"Sword of Mercy"

It is an attribute for ceremonies related to the coronation of monarchs in the UK. Historians suggest that the sword of mercy was the property of Edward the Confessor. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the sword has a broken blade, so it is called shortened. In ancient times it was considered an honor to carry a sword before the king, which was an act of mercy. The film "Sword of Mercy" was filmed in 1918, its premiere took place in Kharkov in 1919, January 31. The film is a psychological drama of the film-making "Screen". The film was directed by Georgy Azagarov, screenwriter - Olga Blazhevich. Bersenev Ivan Nikolayevich is removed in the role of young beautiful Vojte, son of Count Stefan Tsykhovsky. Unfortunately, to this day the film has not survived.

Bersenev's contribution to theatrical art
