Bell's paralysis: is it worth worrying?

First of all, it is necessary to determine what disease in modern medicine has such an amazing name, as "Bell's paralysis". So, here we are talking about a significant lesion of the facial nerve, which can be a consequence of trauma, tumor, surgery and infection, and the characteristic black of this anomaly is that it is expressed only on one side of the face, as if distorting its symmetry and markedly distorting. This disease is still a mystery, over which many scientists "fight", but one thing is clear: Bell's paralysis proceeds in acute form and is expressed by a visual dip in the corner of the mouth with a predominance of difficulty in speaking, eating and blinking. This disease often does without serious medical intervention, since in most cases it passes without relapses and inflammations, although an unusual grimace on the face can remain for a long time and bring a lot of discomfort to the patient.

The causes of paralysis are still not clear, but it is surprising that in the body there is only a change in the facial nerve, and not internal inflammation. Physicians suggest that skewed facial nerve can be associated with edema, and manifests itself more often on weak facial muscles of one half of the face. So, what is the essence of this pathology? To begin with, Bell's paralysis develops in an acute form, since all the symptoms become apparent already on the third day. So, on the first day may be aggravated ear pain, but rather its focus will be located behind the ear. There is also a taste disorder in half of the tongue. However, a general pattern is observed here: if no noticeable improvement is observed within one decade from the date of detection of the first symptom, the disease can extend for several months, and if in the first weeks of the disease the patient is diagnosed with incomplete paralysis is a favorable factor for early healing.

When all the symptoms of the pathology of Bell's paralysis are obvious, treatment should begin immediately. General therapy includes a dense bandage that protects the eyes at night, an intensive massage of paralyzed facial muscles and regular bandages that prevent the overgrowth of paralyzed muscles. It is also advisable to take 80 mg of Prednisone within five days, since it can significantly accelerate recovery, bringing the facial muscles back to normal.

In some cases, surgical decompression of the facial nerve in its canal is recommended, but such a method may be more likely to harm the health than to effectively eliminate pathology.

However, there are other possible causes of progression of this disease. Bell's paralysis can be a consequence of a tumor and a heart attack, as well as many other physiological abnormalities.

But still it is fair to note that this disease does not bring the patient physical suffering, but essentially adds emotional complexes, forcing the patient to constantly look in the mirror, experiencing acute discomfort from his appearance. Very often, many patients do not go with a problem to the doctor, but try to eliminate the visible signs of this disease on their own. In their actions, they often resort to proven folk medicine, or to accept questionable dietary supplements. But, despite the strength of alternative medicine and a fervent belief in various dietary supplements, it is necessary to go to the doctor's office and get an informed consultation about your own health. After all, only a qualified approach to the disease can significantly facilitate its course and significantly accelerate the long-awaited recovery, so the physicians remain the leading opinion, which should be based on.
