Battery charger - device and usage rules

The battery charger is a special device with which you can check the serviceability of the car battery. The most primitive devices of this type consist of a voltmeter and a load resistance. Slightly more sophisticated instruments also have an ammeter in their design. In addition, the load fork for the battery can measure not only the battery, but the entire electrical circuit of the vehicle.

Device

The load fork, measuring the voltage level in the battery, consists of a housing that is located on the handle. It includes a voltmeter and several resistances, which are called load coils. To the "plus" of the voltmeter is connected a thick wire, on its reverse side there is a clamp, which serves to connect the device to the battery terminals of the car. The "minus" is connected with a metal pin, which is located on the back side of the case. There are also 2 fixing nuts here. They are designed to connect load coils with a current strength of 100 amperes each.

It should be noted that the battery charger plug can be suitable not only for standard 12-volt batteries. Most modern devices are good at low-capacity devices (here, as a rule, only one spiral is used) and increased (both spirals are used).

How to use it?

Checking the battery load fork occurs in 2 stages. First, the device must measure voltage without connecting the load resistors. The clamp is connected to both battery terminals. Specialists recommend measuring after the battery is no longer supplied with a memory for at least 6-7 hours. If the battery is not recharged, it is necessary to wait for the same amount of time before the measurements after the car has stopped working (that is, you can not wait for it to be muffled).

Then the load fork for the battery is connected to the "+" terminal on the battery terminal and with the help of a minus charging pin, the device touches the "-" terminal. Now the arrow displays the readings on the scale. Everything, the first stage is completed. If the device shows a charge of 100%, you can safely proceed to the next stage. To do this, you need to do all the same work as the first time, and in addition, you need to connect the necessary load to the device. And one more nuance - the readings from the plug are removed only after the device has lasted in this condition for not less than 5 seconds. At the time of measurement, the probe can become very hot, therefore, immediately after carrying out the work, do not touch it with your hands. In the second stage, the voltmeter needle should show a value greater than 9.0 V. If so, your battery is in good working order.

How much does the load fork for the battery cost?

The price for this device varies from 2 to 4 thousand rubles, depending on the type and manufacturer.
