Are there sharks in the Black Sea?
To panic, of course, should not, as it is not in vain that the sea is considered one of the most attractive for tourists. If it were so dangerous, people would simply not choose this route. However, we know that this is not so. Every year thousands of holidaymakers flood these places.
But if you are worried about the idea of whether there are sharks in the Black Sea and whether it would be dangerous to take a family with them, you need to turn to history first. The age of this reservoir is more than a million years old. According to scientists, it was formed at first as a lake, which separated from the huge ocean of Tethys. The latter inhabited a large number of marine inhabitants, including predators. Then there was a total earthquake, as a result of which the Black Sea was filled with sulfur and became unsuitable for any underwater life. During this period, all aquatic inhabitants died. And such an environment has become the most suitable only for the existence of anaerobic bacteria, which are still actively reproducing there. And only after thousands of years in the fauna of the sea appeared other, more complex forms of life.
So do sharks live in the Black Sea? The answer will be prompted by the results of research by scientists and history itself. Many people are sure that these predators are not there. Nevertheless, do not forget that the Black Sea is directly connected with the Mediterranean, in which they are found. Therefore, to date, surveyors of the seabed have already discovered two types of sharks, which are its stable inhabitants. Here is some information about them, which directly clarifies the dilemma of whether there are sharks in the Black Sea. Yes, they are. The first of these is the Katran, a small prickly predatory fish. It poses no threat to human life and leads itself quite peacefully to the sea. The danger it carries only when it touches the human body sharply, as its spines can inflict wounds. Also, mucus that covers the body of a predator is dangerous, since it has toxic emissions. Therefore, with this shark, you should be very careful and avoid touching it. And if this happens, then immediately you need to see a doctor.
Another inhabitant of the Black Sea bottom is the Scylium sharks, or the cat's shark. It is not considered a permanent resident of these waters, but rather a "tourist". Its static location is the Mediterranean Sea. It is just like a Katran, it is small, so it does not endanger life. It is very attractive for the cooks, who are willingly used to cook delicious food. In general, the cat's shark fairly peacefully lives on its sea territory and does not interfere with vacationers. Especially it is not so often seen here, in most cases during the mass migration of animals of this species.
So are there sharks in the Black Sea? We can say that there are, but still these are not the standard predators that we are used to seeing on TV in various cognitive programs. Black Sea sharks are small fish that are completely incapable of attacking humans, they do not pose a threat to humans.
