Archimandrite Ambrose (Yurasov). Biography and social activities

In the city of Ivanovo, in its very center, stands a large old church of red brick, surrounded by multiple intricate buildings. Today there is a women's Vvedensky monastery, and once, in the years of Soviet power, this wonderful temple was adapted to the State Archives.

At that time it seemed an unthinkable business - to return the cathedral under the wing of the Russian Orthodox Church. Believing people wrote in different instances - everything was useless. A miracle happened when Archimandrite Ambrose (Yurasov) took up his job.

The history of finding the Vvedensky temple is one of the bright and simultaneously tragic pages in the uneasy life of the priest, and in this article we will highlight this event in more detail. And let's talk about the biography of Father Ambrose, about his untiring preaching and enlightening activity in the name of the glorification and triumph of the Faith of the Orthodox.

Ambrose (Yurasov): Biography

The future father was born in the Altai Territory, in with. Lights in 1938 in a poor peasant family with many children. Parents were very religious people, they could instill a passionate love for God from a young age. The father of the boy died in the war in 1941, and the Mother gave the life to the mother a long one. Shortly before her death, she accepted the Great Scheme. Father Ambrose had known hunger since childhood, had seen persecution of Orthodoxy. After he got older, he entered the mine workers, then he served in the army, practicing sports.

The young man was surrounded by atheists. It would seem that in such an environment it was difficult to maintain the faith, nevertheless the young man entered the Moscow Theological Seminary and successfully graduated from it, having obtained the degree of candidate of theology. From 1965 to 1975, the priest serves in the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, where he subsequently takes monastic vows and is ordained as a hieromonk.

In 1976, Fr. Ambrose was transferred to the Pochaev Lavra and elevated to the rank of hegumen. There he stayed for 5 years and all these years he was engaged in quiet humble service to God: he professed the monastic brotherhood, preached and conducted excursions for visitors. But times have come hard: the authorities threatened to close the Lavra, and the monks to evict. With the blessing of his confessor, the hegumen Ambrose (Yurasov) hides from persecutions in the Caucasian mountains, where he carries a prayerful and reclusive way of life.

Foundation of the Holy Virgin Monastery in Ivanovo

In 1983, Father Ambrose was enrolled in the Ivanovo diocese. His first arrival was the village of Zharki, remote from the center, where there were only five houses, then the priest was serving in the village of Krasnoe near the famous Palekh. And now the time has come when he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite and attributed to a new place of service: the Transfiguration Cathedral in Ivanovo.

Archimandrite Ambrose (Yurasov) quickly won the love of the parishioners, who even in the regional center had little in common, because atheism prevailed in the country. But still around the priest rallied a circle of true believers. Together they decided to win the "Red Church" from the atheists (popular name of the Holy Vvedensky Cathedral).

At first, the priest and his parishioners took up the matter peacefully: they wrote, they went with requests to the representatives of the authorities, but soon realized that all this was useless. Another would be on the site about. Ambrose stepped back, despaired, but he decided to go to the end.

One morning, surprised residents of Ivanova saw a tent near the "Red Church" and four women sitting beside them in a monastic robes. These were the spiritual children of Father Ambrose, whom he blessed to go on a hunger strike in protest against the tyranny of the authorities. For that time, it was an unprecedented step! The whole city was buzzing, newspapers and radio poured mud at Father Ambrose, the church was cordoned off by police cordons. From all corners of the city the people flocked to the church to look at the courageous women. The protest action lasted for 16 days and attracted the attention of the international community.

In the end, the Red Church was returned to the Ivanovo diocese, and Archimandrite Ambrose (Yurasov) became the rector of the new church parish. March 27, 1991, with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy there was founded the Holy Vvedensky Women's Monastery. Father Ambrose became his spiritual leader and mentor. Over time, the monastery grew, the number of sisters grew to one and a half hundred. Father Ambrose still directs this monastery to this day.

Public activity of the priest

Today, the sisters and clergymen of the monastery conduct a wide public activity: they visit drug centers and prisons, publish religious literature, speak at the Orthodox radio station Radonezh, feed homeless people, disabled people and orphans, and work in the city's "Phone of Trust." And all these works with patience and love are led by Father Ambrose (Yurasov).

Father's sermons are so popular that pilgrims from all over Russia come to listen to them. And although the Father is an extremely busy person, he still finds time to receive and listen to people, to help with advice, to give solace.

Spiritual Aid to Prisoners

Not far from the Vvedensky monastery is a women's colony. Father Ambrose jokingly nicknamed her another monastery's house. Father and nuns constantly visit convicts, bring them the word of God. Over the past 20 years, the father has been visiting the colonies unceasingly, of which there are many in the Ivanovo region.

Archimandrite Ambrose (Yurasov) was one of the first to go to the cells to suicide bombers, to punishment cells, to tuberculosis detachments. He confessed, baptized and served prisoners with Christian love, commanded by Christ himself. With the support of Fr. Ambrose in the territories of the colonies are being built temples.

It would be desirable to wish this manly and active person health and long life, so that as long as possible he lit the frozen lanterns of the Orthodox faith in the frozen souls of modern people.
