Anubias bartera: types and content

Anubias barter will be a wonderful decoration for every aquarium. At the same time, it multiplies easily and does not require any special care.

Anubias is a watery tropical plant belonging to the family of aroids. Dwells in tropical Africa. It grows mainly in swamps, near streams, rivers. High humidity on the growth of plants is beneficial. Anubias lives well under water, therefore, it is often used in aquariums. Although more favorable conditions for him will be a paludarium or a greenhouse.

Anubias coffee-leaved

This plant is rooted in the ground. It has a fleshy, thick, periodically creeping, branched rhizome, with subordinate cord-like roots. Leaves are asymmetrical, simple, collected in a small outlet. Oval-elliptical leaf plate, leathery, 6 cm wide, 12 cm long, with well-defined lateral and main veins. The leaves are dyed green, while the young ones are reddish-brown. It should be noted that the petiole is slightly smaller than the leaf length or is equal to it. In height, the plant reaches 25 cm with a bush width of about 10 cm.

This Anubias barter is growing quite slowly. The plant in the aquarium is planted directly on the middle line. It perfectly adapts to such conditions. It can be kept in aquaterariums, paludariums and the coastal zone of artificial basins. Due to the hard leaves, this plant is excellent for aquariums, which contain cichlids.

As already mentioned, for Anubias barter content is required the simplest. The plant multiplies by dividing the rhizome. It is broken into pieces with three leaves. In this case, the impersonal areas of the rhizome swim further until the appearance of leaves and the formation of rootlets.

Anubias narrow-leaved

Anubias barter breeds, or narrow-leaved, grows along the banks of swamps, streams and rivers in West Africa: Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Cameroon.

The stem of this plant is straight and short. Young leaves are collected in a socket, while adults are broadly lanceolate, regular, reaching a length of 15 cm, 5 cm in width. Leaf base narrowed to apex, rounded, with blunt end. The upper part of them is slightly wavy, dark green, shiny, moreover, convex, with a green and matt shade from below and a well-marked main vein. The cuttings are about 15 centimeters long. Creeping rhizome 2 cm thick, periodically branched, with light traces of fallen leaves and tuberous thickenings. In the aquarium, the plant in height reaches 15 cm, 40 cm in the paludarium.

Anubias barter dwarf, or nana

The native land of this plant is the tropics of Cameroon. It grows along the banks of streams, marshes, rivers and is almost always located under water, while being fixed on the stones, as well as the roots of trees. Sometimes it takes root in the ground.

Anubias bartera nana has a shortened stem with a small rosette of petiolate simple leaves. It reaches a height of 12 cm. The plate of the leaf is oval in shape, stiff, with a pointed apex, and also a rounded base, dark green with shine, up to 8 cm in length, and up to 4 cm in width. The petiole is smaller than the leaf blade, reaching a length of 5 cm. The plant has a rhizome branched, creeping and covered with leaves.

Anubias variegated

This is a decorative form of the plant, which is distinguished by the presence of light prorecines on the plates of the leaf.

The origin of such a pattern has no unambiguous interpretation. Some experts consider him the offspring of selection, the others explain this phenomenon by the fact that the plant was infected with a special virus. In any case, such an anubias of barter, the photo of which is presented in this article, has a bright individuality.

It has a relatively modest size. This plant is desirable to grow in large aquariums about 50 cm high. In this case, it is necessary to plant on the back or middle plans. The conditions of detention are the same as for the remaining anubias of barter.

Anubias broad leaf

Anubias of broad-leaved barter is a decorative form of the plant, which grows faster in water aquariums, paludariums, in the coastal zone of artificial basins. In the case of planting the aquarium it is located in the middle part.

Durable, unpretentious. It prefers nutritious substrate, very rich in humus. A sufficiently powerful system of roots and greater rigidity of the leaves to this plant provide protection from the inhabitants of terrariums and aquariums digging the soil.

Anubias lanceolate, or lanceolate

This anubias of barter is widespread in the waters of Africa, in addition, on their coasts. This species of plant can often be found in forest water bodies of Cameroon, Gabon and Nigeria (southern regions of these countries).

This is an ordinary plant of swamps. It can grow in the water column, while, of course, its growth will be slowed down. In a natural environment, it reaches 45 cm, but in aquariums it does not occur more than 30 cm. The plant has a creeping enough thick rhizome (up to 1.5 cm), in addition, can meet with thickenings in the form of tubers.

Stem is straight and fairly short. Young leaves are collected in a socket. Their shape is lanceolate. This plant has a rather interesting color - a full palette of green with its shades is represented from the root to the top (the greens are brighter and more saturated from above).

Anubias Congolese, or miscellaneous

This anubias of barter grows in the shadow of standing and slowly flowing water bodies in Africa (Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Angola, Zaire). The plant under natural conditions leads to a partial underwater life.

Anubias variegated is a swamp slowly growing plant. The plate of the leaf is elongate-lanceolate or oval-elliptical in shape, green, leathery, up to 38 cm long, up to 13 cm wide. Sharp tip of the leaf, base short spear or arrow-shaped, slightly wavy edges. The side and main veins are clearly visible on the plate of the leaf.

The petiole of the plant is the same as the length of the leaf. Flower spike up to 27 cm long. The covering sheet is about 4.5 cm, when maturing it is widely opened. Small flowers are collected in small cobs, which are clearly visible to almost half of the veil. Seeds are small. Rhizome fleshy, creeping, thick, periodically branched, with subordinate cord-like roots. The height of the plant is up to 60 cm. At the same time it reaches 25 cm in width.

Anubias graceful

This anubias barter comes from Sierra Leone and Guinea. It grows in a humid environment, in the shade of trees, along the banks of streams, lakes and rivers that come out during the rainy season from the coast (in this case the plant remains under water for some time).

It is worth noting that this anubias creeping rhizome is about 1.5 centimeters thick. The petiole can reach 60 cm in length, has a short vagina. The skin is a leaf blade, arrow-trilobate or cordate, up to 40 cm long and up to 20 cm wide, pointed, rounded at base, green. Up to 15 cm long peduncle. Covering sheet up to 3 cm long, pointed, elongated-elliptical. The cob is covered with flowers, has a length of about 3 cm. Anubias graceful blooms all spring.

Anubias the Giant

This anubias of barter grows in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Togo, Cameroon and Liberia. It grows in the shade, in a humid environment, along the shores of lakes, rivers and streams that come out during the rainy season from the coast (in this case, the plant underwater lasts a long enough time). It is considered one of the largest of its kind. Rarely found in stores.

Anubias gigantic is a fairly large plant that reaches a height of 1 m. Long and thick petioles grow to 80 cm. The leaf of the leaf is leathery, green in color, and varies in shape from tripartite to spear-shaped. Its length reaches 30 cm. The plant can simultaneously hold up to 36 leaves. In this case, the flower stem grows to 50 cm. The leaf covering in length up to 13 cm, opens wide to maturation, while not bending downwards. The spade is up to 19 cm, almost one third longer than the topmost sheet. Up to 8 stamens. Rhizome up to 3 cm thick, creeping. Anubias the giant blooms all spring.

The plant multiplies by dividing rhizomes. It is broken into small pieces with three leaves. At the same time, the impersonal parts of the root continue to float until the appearance of leaves and roots. Young plants are not suitable for soil with a high content of organic, otherwise the root system will develop poorly. Anubias does not like to be transplanted.

And finally ...

When you purchase anubias, you need to pay attention to their kind. Do not buy plants from the trays in which there is cold water. See that the anubis does not show decaying leaves, as well as slippery rhizomes. This may indicate the presence of rhizome rot, as well as vascular bacteriosis in the plant. Those who are ill basically have a putrid characteristic odor. Therefore, be especially careful when choosing algae for your home aquarium. Only contact trusted and reliable sellers.
