"Amen": the meaning of the word, the importance of the concept

In the Orthodox Church, it is customary to serve in the Church Slavonic language, which is similar to Russian only after a careful study. The sound of the same language in which they serve in the temple is very different from the usual for the ear of the Russian.

But in fact, the difference is not so much. It is enough to learn the translation of just a few words and the worship will become much clearer. For example, the word "amen", the meaning of which is not clear, in translation from ancient Greek means "truly." This word ends with many prayers and hymns. A person seems to certify that he completely agrees with what he just said, is confident of it.

Coming to any service, the worshiper will most often see not the priest, but the deacon. It is the deacon who comes out of the altar most often and calls out: "Paki, paki peace in the Lord we pray ...". From the whole appeal it is clear only "We'll pray to the Lord," but in reality everything is not at all difficult: the "packs" are again, and the word "peace" is known to the majority. It means a society of people, that is, "the whole world", meaning "all together".

Orthodox prayers will not be of any complexity, if they translate and comprehend, conclude with the word "amen." The meaning of the prayer can be understood by almost everyone in a few minutes, but, I think, the main problem of modern man in another. An Orthodox man seeks humility and comprehension of the inner movements of his soul. The shortest and most common prayer in Orthodoxy is: "Lord have mercy! Amen! ", The meaning of this short prayer in theory is understandable to everyone. The word "have mercy" presupposes unredeemable guilt on the part of the supplicant and mercy from the master. A man of the 21st century with his pride is not that hard to understand such words as "belly" (life) or "amen," the meaning of the basic prayers, how to realize what was wrong with God.

How can we find out what sin is? A sin is a violation of the will of God, and the will of God is reflected in the commandments. This concept has nothing to do with the notion of "justice", and even more so "tolerance." Commandments are given in the Old Testament, before the birth of Christ. After Christ came into the world, believers should love each other, do even better than the Old Testament's righteous. In fact, even believers today can not say that they observe all the 10 commandments of the Old Testament.

A strict approach to oneself, a love for others, a desire to please God - these are the signs of a true Christian.

But it is impossible to achieve all this independently. The Christians' demands for themselves are too strict, the flesh is too weak. Therefore, people turn to God: "Have mercy! Amen! "The meaning of this prayer is in the petition for help in the matter of the spiritual order. Itself, without the help of God, can not cope.

The meaning of the word "amen" is somewhat different in different languages. According to some assumptions, "amen" is the acrostic phrase "God is the faithful King", and he who utters this phrase, thereby confessing to the true God.

What does the word "amen" mean in ancient Russian texts of historical content? This is again a confirmation that what has been said above is true.

Currently, discussions are under way on the use of the Russian language in worship and in reading the Holy Scriptures in the temple.

It is unlikely that such a transition is reasonable, and he will not bring crowds of Orthodox people to the temple. Those who want to understand, understand and learn, and those to whom all this does not care, will not engage in spiritual life, in whatever language prayers are read.
