In the south of Karachaevo-Cherkessia there is a picturesque Dombai glade. However, not only flowering meadows, fir forests, gorges and mountain rivers attract travelers here. The main object of attention of tourists in the region is the Alibek Falls, a photo and description of which we will consider later in the material.

What is a waterfall?

The Alibek waterfall is formed by glaciers and streams of the Dzhalovchatka river. Its height is about 25 meters. It is a mighty stream that shimmers into the sun with all the colors of the rainbow. The amount of water in the winter and summer time varies considerably. With the arrival of heat under the first morning rays of the sun, you can see here only small streams that escape from the rocky summit. In the evening the flow acquires a large scale, when the melting of the ice cap reaches its maximum.

What is interesting about the waterfall?

Even at the beginning of the last century, the Alibek waterfall did not exist. The rocky ledge, from which the streams of water are falling today, was covered with a thick ice cap. There were huge non-aggregating blocks, the length of which along the ridge was about 5 kilometers. According to environmentalists, the Alibek waterfall appeared as a result of the melting of ice under the influence of global warming. As evidenced by observations of environmental organizations, annually the glacier retreated by about 1 kilometer. Its melting continues to this day, which leads to the formation of streams of water falling from the mountain peak.

The Alibek waterfall is formed from several jets. With the approach to the natural phenomenon, one can hear the strongest rumble that spreads throughout the gorge. This effect delighted even the most experienced travelers. Alibek waterfall attracts tourists and its stones. Mighty rock formations, turned by streams of water, are called inhabitants of the region only as "sheep's foreheads".

What is required to pass unhindered to the waterfall?

The Alibek waterfall is part of the Teberda Reserve. Passage here is paid. In summer, tickets are sold at a price of 200 rubles, in winter the cost is reduced to 100 rubles. You can buy them in the lodge located on the outskirts of Dombay. Only in this place is the control.
