Acetonemic vomiting in children

Acetonemic vomiting in children is considered a childhood illness. Recently, this disease is diagnosed more and more often. It refers to the group of regulatory diseases and is observed more often in the first years of life. Prevalence is poorly understood. According to the data, in our country is found in 6% of the population under the age of thirteen. Most of them are girls. About half of those who are diagnosed require hospitalization.

Why does vomiting occur in children?

In fact, everything is simple. In the brain there is a site called the vomiting center. When he becomes overexcited, vomiting opens. The smaller the baby, the more unstable the psyche, the easier the nervous center is excited.

The stomach of the children occupies an upright position (unlike adults), the entrance to it is wide, and the muscular pulp that closes the stomach out of the stomach is still weak. In addition, the esophagus and stomach are not connected at right angles (as in adults), but under acute. Therefore, food with ease and comes back from the stomach, and the reason for this can be any irritations, even the most insignificant. In addition, vomiting can accompany diseases such as measles, scarlet fever, influenza (general intoxication of the body). Vomiting in children can be a consequence of eating disorders.

Unfortunately, not all parents share the notion of "better" and "more". Many try to gain weight gain by any means, without taking into account the peculiarities of the structure of the organism and its needs, thereby feeding the children, trying to give them a piece fatter and calories. And here vomiting in children plays a protective role, freeing the body of excess food.

If the child continues to overfeed (and sometimes the parents do it violently), vomiting will occur more often, and then become a habit. The child may have a urge to vomit from one type of food. And some children, realizing that parents are experiencing, cause vomiting arbitrarily, demanding the fulfillment of their whims and desires. And the only way out of this situation is to "not notice" what is happening. Ignoring such tactics of the baby, you will force your child to abandon it.

Vomiting can be associated not only with food, but also with experiences. Some parents who have children of school age, faced with childhood vomiting before the school. But it is worth the child to stay at home, vomiting immediately stops. Usually this happens in children timid, timid, not accustomed to large groups, socially unadapted. Over time, the child begins to develop, and the morning vomiting passes. Do not force the adaptation, do not scold the child for bad grades, help him with the homework, talk with him about what is happening in the class, and how he feels at school. Only attention and affection will help here. It is very important to warn the teacher that your child has such a reaction to attending school.

All of the above possible causes, combined with a predisposition, can lead to the onset of acetonemic vomiting. Even for only one name alone it is clear that the cause of vomiting is an increased content of acetone bodies in the blood, indicating a disorder of metabolism, primarily of carbohydrate and fat. Attack, like the rules, is sudden. But there can still be precursors. This is lethargy, deterioration (or lack) of appetite, headache, the smell of acetone from the mouth. Such symptoms occur within a day, sometimes a few hours before the attack.

Vomiting in children begins several hours after eating (sometimes 4-6 hours later), while the temperature may rise. The duration of the attack can be several hours, but it can be prolonged for a week. Vomiting can be with a periodicity of up to half an hour (in severe cases). The air that the child exhales has the smell of acetone. The analysis of urine will also show its presence.

Often the abdomen hurts from the spasms occurring in the child, he constantly asks for a drink, but when he drains the fluid, he provokes a new attack.

Usually vomiting, starting suddenly, suddenly stops and the child gradually enters into a normal state. But sometimes in severe cases, acetone can be coma.

Acetonemic vomiting in children: what to treat?

The attack of such vomiting can be only one and, under certain conditions and proper nutrition, is no longer repeated. But vomiting in children, which is of a cyclic nature, requires treatment.

First of all, the child needs to be examined. It is necessary to establish precisely the causes of this disease, and only then to begin the appropriate treatment. And, of course, only an expert should do it.

If the attack starts suddenly, put the child to bed, stop feeding and call a doctor. Before his arrival, give the child small doses of water, juice, sweet tea.

In mild cases, treatment is based on strict adherence to a diet lasting three days. The diet consists of tea with lemon, crackers, kefir (fat-free), grated apples, mashed potatoes, vegetable soups, fruit juices. Then the diet can be expanded by adding boiled meat, meatballs, milk soups. In a few days the child can be transferred to a full meal. But fried foods are still excluded, as is the high content of fats.

It is very important to begin to observe the daily routine, go in for sports, water procedures. This not only strengthens, but also strengthens the nervous system, which means that it is indicated for children with cyclic acetoneemic vomiting.

More severe cases require treatment in the hospital.

How quickly the child will forget about his illness, largely depends on the parents. Therefore, follow the prescription of the doctor, observe the regime, proper nutrition and protect the child from stress.
