Absolute growth and other statistical indicators

An analysis of how rapidly and rapidly changes occur in time is carried out using statistical indicators of dynamics. You can calculate them on a variable or on a constant basis of comparison. At the same time, the level being compared is usually called "reporting", but the one with which it is compared is "basic". The statistical indicators include:

- growth rates ;

- rates of growth;

- absolute increments;

- absolute values of one percent.

Calculating the indicators on a constant basis, the comparison of each analyzed level with the baseline takes place. In a series of dynamics, the initial level or the point from which the analysis of the phenomenon or process begins begins. For example, if the period from 2008 to 2013 is analyzed, then 2009-2013 are compared to 2008. Indicators that are calculated in this way are called "basic".

By calculating the indicators on the variable base, each level is analyzed with the previous one (for example, in the period 2008-2013, 2009 is compared with 2008, 2010 - from 2009, etc.). Numerical indicators are usually called "chain".

The most important indicator of the dynamics series is the absolute increase. It characterizes the change in the positive or negative side for a certain period of time. In the variable base, its change is usually called the "growth rate".

Accordingly, the absolute increase can be basic or chain. They are also interconnected: the aggregate of successive chain indicators is equal to the basic one, which is the total increment over a period of time.

To estimate the intensity for a certain interval, it is necessary to determine the rate of growth (decline). It is defined as the relationship between the reporting and baselines. The growth rate is measured in percent. To determine the coefficient of this indicator, you need to translate its value into fractions of one. It shows how much the compared level is from the baseline or previous. The rate of growth can not be a negative number.

The basic growth coefficient over the entire period of time is the product of chain factors.

There is such an indicator as the rate of growth (or reduction), which shows the percentage difference between the levels. If the absolute increment is divided by the value of the level taken as the base, this value will be obtained. It can also be calculated by subtracting from the growth rate of 100 or from the growth factor of unity. It is measured in percentages, and the coefficient is in fractions of one. The latter can be both negative and positive, and equal to zero.

Behind these indicators, the absolute value of one percent of growth is hidden - the absolute increase in the ratio with the growth rate over a certain period of time. This percentage is calculated.

These characteristics allow us to compare the dynamics of developing and interrelated events over a fairly long period of time, as well as compare the dynamics of various phenomena across countries, periods in history, etc. And it should be noted that to assess the development of processes and phenomena in time, it is necessary to examine all these indicators in aggregate to form a complete picture.
