A typical suffragist. Is it a scoundrelist or a revolutionary?

Today it seems strange that recently the attitude towards women as to the second sort was quite acceptable in a civilized society. For centuries, women have suffered from the need to unconditionally submit to men who completely disregarded the needs of the fair sex. Therefore, it is quite understandable that such circumstances provoked resentment, and at one point the ladies refused to put up with this state of affairs and rose to the fight.

Birth of movement

The second half of the last century in England was marked by the emergence of a new movement - sufrazhizma. The term comes from the English "suffrage", which in translation means "suffrage". This is exactly what women fought for joining the new movement. Suffragette is a woman who sought to obtain rights similar to those of men. As it usually happens, some participants of the movement looked in different directions, which led to its splits and the struggle of opposing parties.

Movement sufrazhistok divided into two directions. Right forces, including representatives of two newly formed parties, insisted on peaceful ways of carrying out the revolution. They were engaged in the creation of brochures, organized rallies, and created petitions. The center-left forces decided to work in completely different ways that were directed against the incumbent government.

Beginning of the demonstrations

The meaning of the word "suffragette" implies adherence to the ideals of the movement, but not all participants are limited to social position. Very often, such demonstrations were held under loud cries, democratic slogans and with constant scandals. During their protests the suffragettes were engaged in both baiting the enemies and outright chaos. They beat glass houses, glued provocative posters and arranged noisy parades.

Main characters

One of the founders of suffragism is rightfully considered Emmeline Pankhurst. She was an educated woman who was educated in Paris and decided to put her whole life into the struggle for women's equality. She believed that all the problems that arise in the world exist only because the power is completely in the hands of men, however, almost every sufrazhist thought so. This vision of the position of men in society greatly influenced both Emmeline herself and her daughter Cristobal, who completely agreed with her mother.

Flora Drumond is another famous suffragette. It was a pretty colorful lady who, during performances, wore a white uniform with gold epaulettes and a uniform cap. To participate in such actions, she was provoked by hatred of injustice towards women.

Aggressive struggle

Movement sufrazhizma continued to gain popularity and become more numerous. The country continued to shake from rallies, processions and demonstrations. Particularly active participants were in prison, where they held hunger strikes to attract maximum attention.

Result

The work of the movement did not go unnoticed. Already in 1907, a special committee was set up, aimed at protecting the suffrage for women, for which each suffragist struggled. A synonym for the activist of this movement, which today is quite common, is the "feminist". Both sought to regulate the rights of men and women in government organizations, and one movement became a logical extension of the other.

Sufrazhizmu achieved some success, partial suffrage for women appeared already in 1918, and full - in 1928. But until now many people know that the suffragette is a woman who fought for equality.
