A centner is how much?

In a life hardly operate with words "centner", "hectare", "pound". But sometimes you need to translate the weight into other units of measurement or calculate it in them. A simple scheme of actions will help.

What is a centner

This word came from the German language and means literally "one hundred measures". It happened from the Latin centum - one hundred. The standard was a sack of potatoes, which weighs a centner. But he was different in different provinces of Germany:

  • In Bavaria - 56 kilograms.
  • In Saxony - 51.4 kilograms.
  • In Braunschweig - 46.77 kilograms.

Later in this country, averaged centner value, 50 kilograms, was adopted.

When trade began to develop, especially along the sea routes, it became necessary to bring all measures of weight in different countries to one system. For this, there are tables of translation from one dimension to another.

  • Metric, or double, a centner is 100 pounds, as in Austria, Spain, France and Portugal. It is equal to 100 kilograms.
  • In Russia, a centner is equal to 100 kilograms. That's one tenth of a ton.
  • The centner in England, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and Denmark is 50 kilograms. This is an ordinary centner.

In the metric system, where the meter of length is a meter, the weight of one million cubic meter of water (gram) is taken as the standard for measuring the mass. A sample of 1000 grams is called kilogram, specially cast from iridium and platinum and stored in Paris. And in 1885 seventeen countries founded the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.

The following measures were taken in the SI system:

  • A centner is a hundred kilograms.
  • A kilogram is a thousand grams.
  • A ton is a thousand kilograms.

How to transfer weight in centners to kilograms

To translate the centners into kilograms, the amount of something in the centners should be multiplied by one hundred. This seems simple if the number of centners is an integer. And if not?

Examples:

  • 1 cent = 1 x 100 kg = 100 kg.
  • 1.3 ц = 1.3 х 100 kg = 130 kg.
  • 0,4 ц = 0, 4 х 100 kg = 40 kg.

For simplicity, you can allocate a centner separately, then the transfer formula from a centner to kilograms will look like this:

  • А ц = А х 1 ц = А х 100 kg,

Where A is a number (integer or fractional, decimal or not).

How many in 1 ton

  • Centners - 10.
  • Kilograms - 1000.
  • Grams - 1,000,000.

The word "ton" in Latin denoted a barrel. Just like with a centner, the tons were different. But in the SI system it is accepted that in a ton of 10 centners.

To convert the centners into tons, the amount of something in the centners should be divided by ten.

Examples:

  • 1 ц = 1/10 = 0,1 т.
  • 1.3 ц = 1.3 / 10 = 0.13 t.
  • 0,4 ц = 0, 4/10 = 0,04 t.

The formula for the transfer from a centner to tons:

  • A = A x 0, 1 m = A / 10 m,

Where A is a number.

How to convert to centners

In the centners translate kilograms, grams and tons.

1. Kilograms: To translate kilograms into centners, the amount of something in kilograms should be divided by one hundred.

Examples:

  • 10 kg = 10/100 ц = 0,1 ц.
  • 100 kg = 100/100 ц = 1 ц.
  • 653 kg = 653/100 cent = 6.53 centners.
  • 1 kg = 1/100 ц = 0,01 ц.
  • 1.3 kg = 1.3 / 100 ц = 0.013 ц.
  • 0.4 kg = 0.4 / 100 ц = 0.004 ц.

The formula for transferring from kilograms to centners:

A kg = A / 0.01 ц = A / 100 ц.

2. Grams: To translate grams into centners, the amount of something in grams should be divided by one hundred thousand.

Examples:

  • 10 grams = 10 / 100,000 c = 0.00001 centners.
  • 100 grams = 100 / 100,000 centners = 0.0001 centners.
  • 653 grams = 653 / 100,000 centners = 0.000653 centners.
  • 1 gram = 1 / 100,000 ц = 0.000001 ц.
  • 1.3 grams = 1.3 / 100,000 centners = 0.0000013 centners.
  • 0,4 gram = 0,4 / 100,000 ц = 0,0000004 ц.

The formula for transferring from grams to centners:

A r = A x 0, 00001 n = A / 100,000 ц

3. Tons: To translate tons into centners, the amount of something in tons should be multiplied by ten.

Examples:

  • 10 t = 10 x 10 ц = 100 ц.
  • 100 t = 100 x 10 cent = 1000 centners.
  • 653 t = 653 x 10 cent = 6530 centners.
  • 1 m = 1 x 10 ц = 10 ц.
  • 1.3 t = 1.3 x 10 c = 130 c.
  • 0,4 t = 0,4 х 10 ц = 4 ц.

The formula for transferring from tons to centners:

A m = A x 10 ц.

Weight Gauge Instruction

For simplicity of calculations, the translation rule can be reduced to a table.

how to translate In grams In kilograms In centners In tons
Grams - / 1,000 / 100,000 / 1 000 000
Kilograms Х 1,000 - / 100 / 1,000
Centners X 100,000 X 100 - / 100
Tons Х 1 000 000 X 1000 X10 -

How to use the table:

In the last column on the left we find the measure of weight, which must be translated into another. The top row contains the column names. These are instructions to which measure we translate.

Examples:

1. Given 15.6 quintals. It is necessary to translate this weight in kilograms.

  • Solution: We define the "centners" in the leftmost column, we look for the upper line, what we need to translate - "in kilograms", at the intersection we see - we must multiply by one hundred. Hence: 15.6 x 100 = 1560. As they translated into kilograms, we put "kg".

2. Given 450 grams. It is necessary to translate into tons.

  • Solution: Determine the weight in a given measure - grams. We are looking for the measure in the top line, in which it is necessary to translate - "in tons", at the intersection we see: it is necessary to divide into a million. Therefore: 450/1 000 000 = 0.00045 t.

3. It is given 14.25 kilograms. It is necessary to translate into centners and tons.

Solution: We are looking for the "kilograms" in the left column. Then in the top line we find "in centners", at the intersection we see that it is necessary to divide by one hundred. Therefore: 14.25 / 100 = 0.1425 ц. In the same way we find "in tons" - we see that it is necessary to divide by a thousand. Therefore: 14.25 / 1000 = 0.01425 t.

In order not to confuse the lines, for example, do not translate tons into grams, you should start from the leftmost column. Then pay attention to the top line. It is no accident that there is an excuse "in". This will help make a choice.

We translate into a single measure

Sometimes you have to add, subtract, compare the values expressed by different measures of weight. In this case, they lead to one measure.

Examples:

1. Given: Compare a quarter of a centner and a quarter of a ton.

Solution: first, we bring everything to one measure. For example, to centners. It is necessary to translate into them a quarter of a ton. In the line "tons" we look for the intersection with the column "in centners", we see that we must multiply by ten. 1/4 t х 10 = 27,5 ц. Compare: 1/4 and 1/4 m = 1/4 and 27.5 // = 0.25 and 27.5 centners. It is clear that the second quantity is greater.

After a little practice, you can learn how to quickly transfer one measure of weight to another. But to learn how many grams, kilograms, tons per tonne still have. And remember that a centner is a hundred kilograms.
