What is zoospora

Zoospora is a form of the life cycle of a large number of algae and a small part of the lower fungi. Otherwise zoospores are called in some cases vagrants, and in others - zoogonidia. This kind of spore is able to move, because of what actually got its name.

The zoospora is a series of protists, one of their life forms capable of overcoming some distance in liquids. The process of movement occurs due to the beating of one or more flagella.

At this stage of development, numerous species of algae have stigma (intracellular organoid), a chromatophor (cells carrying pigments and capable of reflecting light) and contractile vacuoles (organoids responsible for removing excess fluid from the cytoplasm). Yellow-green species of algae in the zoospora stage are capable of carrying a large number of nuclei.

Reproduction and process of occurrence

Reproduction by zoospores, as mentioned above, is characteristic of representatives of algae and many lower fungi. The mitotic and meiotic division of zoosporangia (special cells) are the ways in which zoospores originate. And the zoospora is the stage of settling.

After a certain period of time, the cell begins to lose the flagellum and, after this process is completed, it begins to produce a more compacted cell wall, after which the fission process begins and, as a result, a fungal mycelium or algae thallus is formed.
