Why the computer is making a noise

Asking why the computer is making noise, it should be remembered that this electronic mechanical device, despite its high-tech, has the ability to wear out, break down, become dirty. Similar changes in the design of cars are usually accompanied by various sounds: rattling, buzzing, crackling. Most often, the sources of the appearance of extra decibels in a computer or laptop are fans of cooling systems, hard drives and optical disc drives, as well as the case of the system unit.

If a completely new computer suddenly started to make noise, then, most likely, it has a factory defect. In such cases, it is recommended that you contact the seller and ask you to correct the problem. If it is found that the computer is noisy, after the expiration of the warranty period of its main components, you will have to get rid of the superfluous sounding of the system unit yourself. As a last resort, in each city there are service centers in which it is easy to get rid of this trouble.

The main and most common reason why a computer is making noise is the faulty operation of the fans of the CPU cooling system, the power supply, the video card, the case. In order to find the source, it is necessary to remove the cover from the system unit and in turn, for one second, by hand to stop the rotation of each fan.

If the culprit is found, you should turn off the computer, disconnect it from the network and troubleshoot it. To do this, you may need a screwdriver, a lubricator, compressed air and, possibly, a thermal grease.

First of all, you should clean the fan blades from the dust that has accumulated on them. Dirt their weight changes their center of gravity and aerodynamics, which leads to wear of the bearings and, as a result, rattling and noise.

Dust, settled on the heatsink cooler of the processor, interferes with heat transfer and leads to overheating. As a result, the cooler fan has to rotate faster, providing sufficient cooling. Hence the unnecessary buzz.

If there is reason to believe that the noise is produced by bearings of rotating elements, then it is worthwhile lubricating them with a special oil, using a lubricator.

When all measures for cleaning and lubricating the cooling system of the processor are carried out, but did not give a positive result, you should try to replace the thermal paste. Alternatively, the accelerated rotation of the fan of the cooler may occur due to the lost settings in the BIOS.

One of the reasons why a computer is making noise is the operation of hard drives. Sounds issued by a hard drive can have two sources: a disk rotation mechanism and a positioning head for reading and writing information.

In the first case, you will not be able to get rid of the noise, since the hard disk most likely worn out. In the second case, you can adjust the speed of the heads using a special program downloaded from the manufacturer's website, or, alternatively, by the AAMTool or MHDD utilities.

Other, more rare reasons why a computer is making noise are a malfunction in CD or DVD drives, poor-quality mounting of these devices, the use of dirty, stained CDs.

Strong noise can produce revolving at maximum speed drives in the optical drive. To watch movies and play music, such speeds are not needed, so they can be limited by using special utilities, for example, Nero.

Sometimes the culprit of what the computer is making noise can be the case itself of the system unit. The vibrations and vibrations transmitted from the internal components to the housing covers through loose or loose fixtures turn into jarring sounds. To eliminate the resonance, it is necessary to anchor the device somewhere on the housing somewhere, to place a rubber washer somewhere, to glue a noise-insulating material absorbing the vibration somewhere.
