Where is the purge valve of the adsorber? "Kalina": malfunction of the purge valve of the adsorber

All modern cars with automatic fuel injection, including Lada Kalina, are equipped with a gasoline vapor recovery system (SUPB). This is a mandatory requirement for machines whose ecology class starts from Euro-3. The system is designed primarily to exclude the entry of fuel vapors into the atmosphere, but in addition it allows to maintain a stable engine operation, and also to save fuel.

One of the main components of the EVAP is the purge valve of the adsorber. What this element represents, how it is arranged and what is intended, we'll talk about this article. In addition, we will consider the signs of valve failure, the causes of failure, as well as describe the process of its replacement by the example of the car "Lada Kalina."

Why do I need a vapor recovery system?

Gasoline belongs to the category of volatile hydrocarbons, and its vapor has a high volatility. While the engine is running, gasoline, which is in the tank, at least a little, but it heats up. In addition, during the movement, he wobbles. These processes accelerate the evaporation of fuel, creating an increased pressure in the tank. Previously, car tanks had only a primitive ventilation system, which simply released the vapor through special openings into the atmosphere. Naturally, this caused some damage to the environment, and there was no question of saving fuel in general.

The introduction of a gasoline vapor recovery system allowed solving both problems simultaneously. With it, evaporation is not released into the environment in vain, but is used for its intended purpose, i.e. To ensure engine operation.

What does the vapor recovery system consist of?

The SUPB in Kalina consists of the following elements:

  • Discharge and return fuel lines;
  • separator;
  • Adsorber;
  • The purge valve of the adsorber.

As you can see, the system is quite simple. Consider the purpose of each of its elements separately.

With regard to the fuel pipes, it's just a tube, through which the evaporation of gasoline leaves the tank, as well as for which fuel is returned to it back. The separator serves to collect fuel vapors and their condensation. The adsorber is designed to catch those fumes that did not have time to go into liquid form. необходим для того, чтобы направлять пары бензина в ресивер впускного коллектора. The purge valve of the adsorber ("Kalina") is necessary in order to direct the gasoline pairs to the intake manifold receiver.

How the system works

Fuel vapor is raised and concentrated in the upper part of the tank. When the pressure in the tank rises, the vapor enters the fuel line, and from there to the separator. There is a process of cooling and condensation. Part of the vapor settles on the walls of the separator, goes back to the liquid state and returns to the tank by the return fuel line. The other part, which did not have time to condense, enters the adsorber. The device is an ordinary plastic can, filled with crushed activated carbon. Vapors accumulate in the adsorber before starting the engine.

When we try to start the engine, the solenoid valve of the adsorber purge ("Kalina") comes into operation. The signal for its opening is fed from the electronic engine control unit. At the moment of starting the valve opens, and the gasoline vapor is piped to the intake manifold receiver. Thus, evaporation, which no one even accounted for before, contributes to fuel economy, and also does not pollute the environment.

What is the purge valve of the adsorber on the "Kalina"

In fact, the purge valve of the adsorber ("Kalina") - this is a conventional locking device, powered by a conventional electromagnet. It consists of:

  • Plastic housing;
  • Electrical connector;
  • A spring-loaded valve;
  • Electromagnetic winding;
  • Magnetic core.

Working phases of the valve

обесточен и находится в закрытом положении. With the engine switched off, the purge valve of the adsorber ( "Kalina") is de-energized and is in the closed position. In other words, the vapor recovery system is blocked from the power unit side. At this time in the adsorber under pressure evaporates the gasoline. At the time of starting the engine, the electronic control unit supplies power to the valve, activating the electromagnet. He opens the locking device, and the gasoline vapor is naturally absorbed into the intake manifold. When the engine stops operating, the valve is de-energized and closes the pipeline. Pairs of gasoline cease to flow into the receiver. . So the purge valve of the adsorber ("Kalina") works.

Some modern cars of foreign production are equipped with more sophisticated devices. Their design is complemented by sensors that allow the electronic unit to additionally receive information about the saturation with the vapor of the adsorber fuel, to estimate the percentage of air and, based on the data obtained, control the fuel supply to the injector.

Symptoms of the adsorber purge valve

, как и любая другая электромеханическая деталь, может выходить из строя. The purge valve of the adsorber ("Lada Kalina") , like any other electromechanical part, can fail. The signs of its malfunction are:

  • The appearance on the instrument panel of the inscription CHECK (during testing, an error is detected with the code P0441 corresponding to the failure of the vapor recovery system);
  • Floating engine speed at idling speed;
  • Unstable operation of the engine while driving;
  • Increase in fuel consumption;
  • Increase of CO 2 level in exhaust gases.

In addition, in cars "Lada Kalina" malfunction of the purge valve of the adsorber can manifest itself in the appearance of a characteristic smell of gasoline in the cabin. This phenomenon occurs when the pressure in the vapor recovery system exceeds the calculated values.

It is not difficult to diagnose a valve, but you need to know where to look for it.

The purge valve of the adsorber ("Kalina"): where it is located and how to recognize it

находится не в моторном отсеке, а рядом с бензобаком. Unlike the injection cars of the Samara family, the Kalina adsorber is not in the engine compartment, but near the gas tank. It is impossible to get to it without removing the fuel tank. But the purge valve is located under the hood. It is fixed to the radiator frame, and access to it is always free. You can easily find it by recognizing by two pipes, according to which, in fact, the gasoline pairs move.

Check Valve

Suspected that the device is out of order, hurry to conduct its diagnosis and, if necessary, replace it. No, its failure does not carry critical consequences. The car has traveled and will continue to drive, just the engine will run in emergency mode, and fuel will consume more. But how to check the purge valve of the adsorber on the "Kalina" on its own?

This process does not take much time. And all you need from the tools is a multimeter, a screwdriver and a pair of wires. Raise the hood, find the valve. Next, disconnect the wiring harness from it. To do this, squeeze the clip fixing clip. First of all, let's check if the valve is energized. We turn on the multimeter in the voltmeter mode. The black probe is attached to the "mass" of the car, and the red one to the "A" connector on the harness of the harness. Turn the ignition on and look at the instrument. The voltage across the terminals must match the battery voltage. If there is none at all, or it is much smaller, the problem is not in the valve, but much deeper.

If the voltage is ok, go ahead. Dismantle the purge valve. For this, we loosen the fasteners of the hose clamps by a screwdriver and remove them from the fittings. We shift the valve upwards on the bracket and remove it.

Checking the device is to connect it directly to the battery terminals. We take one wire and connect it to the positive terminal of the purge valve. The second wire is connected to the minus one and we throw both conductors to the corresponding terminals of the battery. At this point, there should be a click, saying that the electromagnet has worked. In this case, the purge valve of the adsorber can be considered as working. If nothing happens during the connection, the device will have to be changed.

Change the purge valve

Trying to repair a valve is an ungrateful task. Yes, and it is inexpensive. Depending on the modification, the price for it can be from 350 to 600 rubles.

после его проверки и демонтажа осуществляется с использованием одного инструмента – отвертки с крестовой битой. Replacement of the purge valve of the adsorber on the "Kalina" after its verification and dismantling is carried out using one tool - a screwdriver with a cross bit.

The order of installation is as follows. First of all, we connect the hoses of gasoline vapor to the valve unions. Using a screwdriver, tighten the clamp screws. We install the valve on the bracket and slide it along the guides down to the stop. We connect the wiring harness. Turn the ignition on, start the engine. If his work has improved noticeably, the turns have become stable, and the error message has disappeared from the dashboard, so we did everything right.
