But if you really want something unusual and exotic, you can buy a turtle. Care for her is not very difficult, so she is often taken to a city apartment.

The sight of the turtle does not really matter, since you can grow any house, except, of course, giant animals. The size should not exceed 50 cm, since with large species there may be difficulties in growing, they require more space and more food. Small turtles in this regard are more economical and they are much easier to care for.

Which animal is preferred: water or land? It should be remembered that there are very few terrestrial turtles and they are all listed in the Red Book. Buy them legally is very difficult, because the sale of these species is prohibited, which does not stop pet stores and even more so of smugglers. But it must be remembered that for one living land tortoise there are several dozen dead in the course of transportation. If to buy, it is Central Asian, because it is not so rare and not very often sick.

The terrestrial appearance of the turtle is good in that it is easier to feed. She eats vegetables and fruits, and in the terrarium is easier to clean. For aquatic turtles you need an aquarium with a capacity of at least 100 liters, as well as a filter, an incandescent lamp, a UV lamp, an aquarium heater. In addition, they eat fish, so in terms of feed more problematic.

The aquatic appearance of the turtle is good because among these individuals there are more bright representatives, they are in free sale and are not prohibited by law. They are always active and more beautiful than land. Red-eared turtles are the most popular in our country. They have a green shell, which darkens with age, and red "ears" on their heads, thanks to which they got their name. This kind of turtle is grown on farms in America, but to us is imported.

Also very popular among lovers is the European swamp turtle, it is black with yellow stripes. Though considered predatory and freshwater, it still feeds on plant foods, and it needs land. Also in the home can contain Chinese Far Eastern trionics. This turtle is very aggressive, feeds exclusively on fish. In addition, it is listed in the Red Book, so its sale is illegal.

Before buying a pet, you should find out everything about turtles: what they eat, where they live, what is necessary for their full-value maintenance. Buy them best in adulthood or adolescence, because the young are sick more often and, accordingly, the mortality among them is greater. Turtles are more active in the summer, so it is in a warm period that the chances of getting a really healthy pet increase. In winter almost all sick animals are sold, which they could not sell in the summer. The most important thing is for the turtle to please, if it is provided with proper care and attention, then it will live a long and happy life.
