What is vintage and why does it gain popularity

The furniture that we inherited from my great-grandmother, my mother's lace dress, old embroideries on the walls ... When we want to understand what vintage is, we always remember things "with history." In fashion, in home use and design, this trend has been gaining popularity since the late 1990s. Epochs and Preferences follow each other: if in the sixties and eighties the main aspirations were to novelty, modernity, then later it became nostalgic to recall the "well forgotten old". So far, in determining what vintage is and how it differs from retro, there is no absolute clarity. Most believe that these things are 30-60 years ago, but many in the same direction include both replicas (imitations) and antiques. Retro same - items of clothing, household goods, design older than 15 years.

We will not go into detailed discussions on the subject of what vintage is. The word itself, originating from the French language, has the meaning "aged (about wine or cognac), time-tested." For many people, the age of things is of great importance. It is believed that the old traditions have preserved their charm, that this is a kind of return to the better, to a more spiritual one. And if the layman on the question of what vintage is, he will answer that these are things from the grandmother's trunk, then the designers of the whole world willingly exploit the nostalgia "in the old, kind world." That's why there are also imitations, and artificial aging of clothes and Furniture, and the combination of antique elements with modern.

Furniture vintage - it is not always refurbished Viennese chairs and couches a la Louis seventeenth. You can differently relate to styling and imitation, but in the models reproduced from old models of modern materials with artificial scuffs and scratches there is something unnatural. Virtually in any furniture salon you can find attributes of the Victorian style, Art Nouveau and even the "eighteenth century". Of course, all this is only the reproduction of old forms and design.

The same goes for clothes. Really old things are often impossible to find: sewn from natural fabrics, they just could not stand the test of time. That's why designers reproduce the old cut, patterns, elements reminiscent of the past (tight buttons, embroidery, lace). Perhaps the easiest way to find a vintage decoration. It does not need to be a royal ring or a necklace of precious stones.
But right now it is possible to observe an increased interest in diadems, that is, such ornaments that were in vogue at the end of the nineteenth - early twentieth century.

If we like this style, other accessories deserve attention. For example, embroidered or tapestry handbags, beaded collars, lace cuffs and gloves. The charm of vintage design in modern execution is that it allows eclecticism. For example, a cameo can be worn not only with an openwork blouse or dress on the floor, but also with leather trousers or a denim shirt. Experts and connoisseurs, of course, pay attention to materials. But the modern fashionista is very difficult to find natural velvet, hand-crafted lace or ivory, mother-of-pearl jewelry. Much more often we deal with artificial materials, and no matter how much we would like to return to the past, we are forced to submit to the demands of the times.
