What is the Valsalva trial and how to conduct it?

What is the Valsalva trial? The process by which a deliberate exhalation takes place. The mouth and nasal passages are closed so that the necessary tension of the abdominal muscles and the thoracic cavity occurs. This method is named after the famous Italian anatomist. But for what purpose does this procedure, known today as the Valsalva trial, serve?

Applying this method, it is possible to effectively expel pus, for example, from the ear cavity with the purulent processes common in many people today. Knowingly such process still often name pressure on Вальсальве.

Often this procedure is performed, for example, divers when diving to depth, as well as passengers of the aircraft during take-off and landing. This helps to adjust the pressure in both the upper jawbone and in the middle ear area.

How correctly to conduct such procedure? The Valsalva test consists in making a full exhalation and a deep breath. Then the patient should make another strong exhalation and briefly hold his breath. Throughout this time, a thorough recording of the electrocardiogram is carried out, as well as mandatory recording of diastolic, systolic blood pressure.

There are several options for this test. In one possible patient lies on his back. For about 15 seconds, one must exhale into a special tube connected to a manometer, which creates the necessary pressure in the system (approximately 40 mm Hg).

The Valsalva trial involves several basic physiological stages. The age, the location of the body in space, sex, the pressure that is created with deep exhalation, and the regular use of certain medications can influence the result of the study.

Often people with an inherited predisposition to connective tissue diseases have aneurysms. It is often possible to notice the coronary right side of the affected sinus of Valsalva. The gap often occurs in young people or even in children.

If you perform a similar (described above) method, then the air retention that occurs in the lungs creates a lot of pressure. And such a high pressure in the chest and abdominal cavity limits the return of the necessary venous blood to the heart. This, in turn, can lead to the fact that the amount of blood ejected by the heart into the vessels, sharply reduced. From all of the above, we can conclude that people who suffer from such cardiovascular pathologies, this procedure is strictly forbidden, especially without the supervision of a doctor.

You can sum up a little. As can be seen, the Valsalva trials are used for a specific purpose, namely: to assess the probability of a sudden fatal outcome in the event of an infarction, by conducting a special test. In this case, the heart rate is measured , the variability of the rhythm is estimated. If the result is a low rate, then the risk of sudden death is very high.
