What is hypertension

An explanation of what such hypertension can be found in any medical reference book. One of the definitions is the following: "Hypertension is an excessive muscle strain, which manifests itself in their increased resistance to stretching." This disease appears with an increase in blood pressure to 140/90. At diabetics, the pressure 130/90 is already considered to be elevated. Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in the world.

What is hypertension, you can feel on yourself, feeling a rush of blood to your head, a knock in your ears. If you use a tonometer, you can see if your blood pressure has increased and much . At indications of 140/90 and above, arterial hypertension is already observed . A normal blood pressure is considered lower than 120/80. If it fluctuates between 120/80 and 139/89, then this is considered a preliminary hypertension.

To fully understand what hypertension is, I would like to dwell in more detail on the figures that reflect blood pressure. The upper number (120 or 139) corresponds to the pressure that arises when the blood is pumped into the artery by the heart. But the lower number (80 or 89) shows the pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes after contraction.

Increase in blood pressure occurs with narrowing of the arteries and small branches - arterioles. It is the arteries that are the main arteries that deliver blood to various organs and parts of the human body. There are people who have arterioles narrowed due to spasm, and then the lumen becomes constantly narrowed due to thickening of the wall. In this case, the work of the heart must be strengthened to overcome the blood flow of these narrow places. There is an ejection of more blood into the vessels. This is how arterial hypertension develops.

There is such a thing as secondary or symptomatic hypertension. What is it, it is possible to understand at carrying out of the corresponding diagnostics, showing the reason of increase of arterial pressure. This type of hypertension is the defeat of an individual human body. But the occurrence of this disease is extremely rare. A fairly common type among the varieties of hypertension (about 90% of all patients) is primary or essential. It is necessary to understand very clearly when symptoms of hypertension occur , that this disease must be treated, since it can become a threat to the general state of a person and cause damage to the brain, heart, kidneys. This disease increases the risk of atherosclerosis and stroke, visual impairment.

Modern medicine has a sufficient number of high-quality and effective drugs, both for the treatment of this disease, and its prevention. But one can become healthier only on one condition - carefully following all the recommendations of the attending physician.

Than to treat a hypertension, first of all, the expert will prompt, after all its treatment can be carried out with use of pharmacological and not pharmacological methods.

Pharmacological treatment of this disease is carried out according to the "stepwise" principle, which prescribes the appointment and taking of drugs in a certain sequence with different points of influence until the immediate moment of normalization of blood pressure. If the prescribed number of drugs does not help in the fight against the disease, then the doctor prescribes alternative drugs.

Nonpharmacological methods include:

- weight loss by reducing the intake of carbohydrates and fats;

- restriction of salt intake up to 3-4 grams per day;

- spa treatment;

- Physiotherapy and psychotherapist's help.

What is hypertension, you should know well those categories of people who have at least one of the signs of the disease, who are at risk of developing this disease. But the factors that lead to hypertension (ie hypertension):

- predisposition by inheritance;

- the age of a person (the older he becomes, the more likely he is to have high blood pressure);

- sedentary lifestyle

- and, of course, the excess weight of the body.
