What is better - a terrace board made of WPK or solid wood?

The construction on the countryside is not limited to the erection of a residential building. Also there are also associated buildings for rest, storage and auxiliary works, for which the appropriate building materials with the necessary characteristics are selected.

From materials that are used in the fresh air, it requires thorough strength, durability and stability before the impact of the environment. Therefore, for the construction of buildings such as terraces, gazebos and open areas, choose the most high-quality material. And first of all it concerns the floor covering, which is under heavy load in comparison with other elements of the structure.

Decking

For the floor covering of buildings located in the open air, the reliability of the material is extremely important. Therefore, for the manufacture of floor, as a rule, boards are used from a solid wood massif. However, more recently, a new building material has appeared that has better characteristics.

This is a terrace board made of KDP, which has all the advantages of a natural material in the absence of its disadvantages. High performance is successfully combined with ease of installation and no cost in use.

Manufacture of WPC involves the use of two types of raw materials - wood (mostly chips) and polymer. This combination made it possible to achieve a unique strength and durability of the material.

What to choose: decking from natural wood or KDP?

To understand what is best - wood-polymer composites or solid wood, you need to consider and compare the characteristics of both materials.

The durability of the boards from the KDP is about 40-50 years, while from solid wood it is about 15-20. But only in case the wooden board is properly impregnated with all protective means. In this tree requires not only the initial treatment of varnish or paint, but also periodic renovation of the coating. The board from PDK in this regard is not only more convenient, but also beneficial in operation, since it does not require additional care during use.

The main advantages of the wood-polymer composite

In addition to durability, the PDK has a number of additional advantages, which determine its use as a floor covering of structures located in the open air:

  • Unlike wood, the composite does not burn, is moisture resistant and is UV-resistant.
  • The board made of DPK is the same environmentally friendly material as natural wood. However, composite decking is more practical material due to its high wear resistance, which expands the scope of its application.
  • A wide color palette will allow you to select the material that fits perfectly into the landscape design of the suburban area.
  • In addition, the terrace board from the KDP has another significant advantage. Due to the peculiarities of manufacture, the slats have a rough surface, which eliminates the risk of slipping during the rain.

How much does a board from the KDP cost?

It makes sense to mention the cost of the KDP separately. The facade board made of wood-polymer composite at first glance seems prohibitively expensive. However, if we take into account the fact that a large part of the cost of additional consumables will not be required, in the end it turns out that the decking from the KDP is rather beneficial.

In addition, the installation of the floor covering is so simple that it can be performed independently without involving a specialist. The board is laid almost on any substrate except for the boggy ground. However, after a qualitative drainage system is carried out, this problem is solved.

Is it really expensive?

The board of the KDP, whose price is somewhat higher in comparison with the array, perfectly compensates for this deficiency by its resistance to environmental influences. This material does not swell from high humidity, does not fade under the sun's rays and does not dry out from high temperatures.

The estimated cost for wood-polymer composites varies from 300-470 rubles. Per meter depending on the manufacturer and brand of the product. Another factor affecting the cost of the board is the type of wood used in its production. The more valuable the wood, the greater the amount that will have to pay for the material for construction.

Terms of operation of the board from the KDP

Even so unpretentious to the conditions of use the material has its limitations in operation:

  • The TDK board is not used in places with a constant high humidity without access to wind and sunlight. Decking must necessarily be ventilated periodically. Otherwise, even this building material can become moldy.
  • It is absolutely unacceptable to operate decking from a composite while constantly being in water.
  • And the last restriction. Do not use the material in rooms where a frequent and large temperature difference is possible, for example, in a therma. This can lead to deformation of the board.

I must say that although decking of wood-polymer composites practically does not fade in the sun, a slight discoloration is still possible.

From all that has been said, it can be concluded that the rather high cost of a terraced board made of wood-polymer composites will pay off afterwards due to the longevity of the material. While the cover from the solid wood will become unusable much earlier. Therefore, we can say with confidence that the future is for the KDP.
