What is alcoholic encephalopathy?

Alcohol can cause many unhappiness. He ruins both the human body and his life. People who abuse alcohol, over time, become inadequate, painful and lose the opportunity to resist various psychoses that can be very powerful. One of such psychoses, arising due to excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, is alcoholic encephalopathy. - chronic form.

Diarrhea is also possible. Such alcoholic encephalopathy is very often accompanied by obsessive delirium and paranoia. A person in its midst begins fever and severe fever, speech becomes confused, utterances inappropriate, and movements convulsive. Urinary and fecal incontinence can often be observed. Without proper treatment, this can not be done, since a person can easily fall into a coma or even die. This psychosis lasts usually about two or even three months.

Chronic alcoholic encephalopathy can manifest itself very slowly, and can suddenly manifest as a severe attack. Such an attack, as a rule, happens when a person, among other things, acquires a white fever. In general, the chronic form is usually divided into:

- Korsakov's psychosis;

- Alcoholic pseudo-paralysis.

The Korsakov syndrome is characterized by:

- severe memory impairment;

- polyneuropathy (a specific neurological disorder);

- combining speech and motor reactions.

Very often the patient's condition immediately improves after he ceases to consume alcohol.

Alcoholic pseudo-paralysis can be diagnosed by the following symptoms:

- memory impairments that involve loss of skills and knowledge acquired earlier;

- the loss of any logic in judgments;

- patients in most cases do not believe that their condition is not normal.

With alcohol pseudo-paralysis, you can often see nonsense, a lot of obsessions, as well as suspicious cheerfulness and gaiety. Treatment can last several years.

Alcohol encephalopathy: treatment

As can be understood from all that was said above, treatment in any of the cases will not be easy. At the time when alcoholic encephalopathy was found, you should immediately stop drinking, as it is a sure sign that the body is on the very edge. Then you should seek help from a doctor who prescribes the necessary drugs, or he will be sent to a special center for treatment. Many people start to drink anew immediately after the course of treatment. Of course, the result of all this can be a lethal outcome.
