What can you eat in a fast? Do not eat neighbors!

A person is inclined to extremes - self-denial or selfishness, hunger or a feast. Fasting is one way to find the golden mean. The English author Lewis (who created The Chronicles of Narnia) writes that in order to balance taste with novelty and the pursuit of stability, God created a rhythm. Perhaps, that's why the believers hold fast four times a year. Of course, as a result of decades of imposed atheism, we have lost the link between generations, many traditions related to nutrition have been lost.

In the life of our ancestors, the posts were organically linked with the agricultural calendar, and therefore each time had its own dishes, which fully corresponded to the religious canons for a certain point in time. Now we have to find it painful to look for dishes on the Internet, the components of which are inexpensive (or at least familiar!). Sometimes you can make amazing discoveries for yourself, but more often the inexperienced mistress gets a conditionally edible lean dish. And the whole point is that the authors who write recipes on the Internet are not trying to make you taste delicious, but rather that their recipe is unique, that is, even small word combinations of the text are not found anywhere else. Can you imagine what turns out if instead of culinary goals are put technical? Yes, it turns out tasteless, even sometimes inedible. Therefore, you need to take information from large resources that you trust. Or turn to decent books, which can also be a good option.

What are the general rules that you can eat in fasting? It is classically considered that products of animal origin are prohibited. However, there is a class of products that are certainly of animal origin, but are allowed even in Lent. What can be eatable at this time? A variety of crustaceans and mollusks, squid. In the ancient Russian books they were called "sea fruits". And there was permission in those days when cooked food is allowed.

In general, there are several measures of severity of fasting, namely 4. What kind of post is relied on this or that day can be seen in special calendars. And there is no formal difference between the diet of monks and laymen. If it is difficult for you to endure a fast, consult a priest who knows you well and ask him to allow you some additional products.

It's hardest to endure dry eating - this means that food is not good, however, you can eat bread. Even at this type of post is prohibited heated and cooked drink. That is, your favorite coffee will have to be abandoned. And from food to confine yourself to raw vegetables and fruits, and again bread. Compote, coffee and tea on such days can not drink. However, there are not many such days.

The second measure of the severity of fasting is permission for cooked food, but without vegetable oil. What can be eaten in fasting, when such a measure of severity is applied? Cereals (tasty with mushrooms), potatoes, beans, carrots, lean soups.

The third measure of the severity of fasting is the permission for lean oil. What you can eat in the post, if the calendar is an icon of an oil droplet? This means that you can fry food in oil in a frying pan on such a day. Of course, such a post is much easier to transfer, because the energy in the body comes more. It's one thing - a plate of rice (even with mushrooms), and another - a portion of well-fried potatoes.

The fourth measure is the permission to fish. On such days you will feel that there is almost no fasting. And the body can receive animal protein. Although not everyone is allowed to fish. What can you eat in a post from fish products? Only low-fat fish, so keep salmon and trout until the nearest religious holiday.

In general, it must be remembered that food restrictions during fasting are created in order to discipline the spirit. Therefore, one should not forget about the main component of fasting - abstaining from sin and amusement. And then the Lord will reward your efforts to keep the fast by grace. And the question "What foods can be eaten in fasting?" Will not torment you.
