The hunter Hugh Glass is attacked by an angry bear, who protects his bear cubs. Because of this, the group was forced to split into two parts. One includes wounded Hugh Glass, his half-blooded son, Jim Bridger and John Fitzgerald. They had to wait for Hugh Glass's death and then bury him. But events develop in such a way that John Fitzgerald kills Hugh's son and, under the threat of death, causes Bridger to drop a wounded hunter. But despite all the circumstances, Hugh Glass does not die, but defies nature, the tribes of the Indians and the cold winter. It is worth noting that in the western "Survivor" actors conquered by their game viewers.

On his way, Glass has to go through a lot of hardships and trials. He repeatedly escapes from hostile Indians, who lost the leader's daughter. Their suspicions primarily fell on the group that accompanied Hugh Glass. But it turned out that the daughter was kidnapped by the French, in whom the Indians exchanged the skins of different animals for horses. By chance, the leader's daughter was rescued by Hugh Glass, who entered the French camp to steal the horse. But soon, after another flight from the tribe of the Indians, he was forced to open his already dead horse belly, there to spend the night and not die from the cold.

At the end, Glass still manages to reach his camp, in which the remains of his group are located in the person of Bridger and Fitzgerald. The latter, having learned of Hugh's salvation, robbed his own and soon fled the camp. It is worth noting that the actors of the movie "Survivor" coped well with their roles, despite the fact that among them there were also non-professionals. After a short pursuit, Glass is catching Fitzgerald and there is a hand-to-hand fight between them. In it, the murderer of his son, Glass, was seriously wounded. Hugh did not kill his enemy, but gave the Indians the right to decide his fate. However, they did not show pity for Fitzgerald, taking off his scalp and killing him. At the end of the movie "Survivor", whose actors are few, the main character climbs the slope on which his wife dreams of. In the final frame, his face is shown, Glass's eye is directed straight to the camera.

The creation of such a masterpiece is the hard work of many people. Filming the movie "Survivor", whose actors worked in unbearable conditions, were held in Canada and British Columbia, as well as in Argentina, where participants had to get in search of snow.

Specially for the shooting, several scenery was built: a camp of hunters, destroyed by either Indians, or the weather church, fort and several villages. And during construction, those materials were used, which corresponded to the era described in the film. True, the mountain of skulls of bison was imitated with the help of a wooden frame. On it were securely fixed about one hundred and fifty models of special light, but durable material.
