Watch-skeletons - a true work of art

Watch-skeletons - this is undoubtedly a revolution in the design of men's and women's watches. Such watches have transparent dials.

What does this give? This allows you to contemplate the work of the entire clock mechanism and separately each of its parts. But such watches can differ by how naked their mechanisms are. Some watch-skeletons have only a back cover, which is translucent.

Through their glass you can see how the pendulum functions, the gears rotate. They can be with and without automatic winding. Watches only with an open pendulum are not real skeletons.

Watch-skeletons assume the use of only the best parts. Watchmakers often engrave the filigree details manually, and sometimes even decorate them with gems. Skeleton watches possess the most complicated mechanisms, which in themselves are real masterpieces. However, exposed to public view, they become a very expensive work of art. The material and aesthetic value of such a mechanism under the transparent dial increases several times.

Skeleton watches can have stylistic design features, which makes them really unique. Not surprisingly, at the moment, such watches are the most fashionable and popular accessories.

Watch-skeleton women are even more elegant than men's. The smallest such women's skeletons were released by Armin Storm at the end of the twentieth century. This he deserved to enter his name in the Guinness Book of Records, although in the main his hand was man-made skeleton watches.

Initially, this master was engaged in the restoration of old models of watches. He quickly became famous, thanks to the ability to "resuscitate" the mechanisms and make parts for them with his own hands. This watchmaker master has earned a reliable reputation. In the eighties of the last century, he created his own pocket watch, which was instantly bought by one of his regular customers.

Later Armin Storm produced watches in small series or in general only in a single copy.

How are the skeleton watches made?

This is indeed a very complex and delicate work, requiring exceptional mastery of the watchmaker and utmost attention. First, the clockwork is completely disassembled, and then bridges and platinum are removed, after which they are replaced with precious sapphire plates. This is done in order to make the work more spectacular. In order for the watch to last longer, some wheels and gears, whose movement pattern is similar to an openwork cloth, is made of silver or gold, and the remaining details are covered with platinum. After such processing the clockwork is again to be assembled.

This work is really only a professional. Since after all these actions the thickness of the bridges is significantly reduced, it is necessary to exert much effort to maintain the quality of the wheel transmission and the accuracy of the stroke.

The process of creating such watches is very time-consuming and requires a lot of time, because all the details need to be cut out perfectly and just as perfect to trim. The details should look flawless, as the mechanism of these watches is completely naked.
