There was a prophecy that the Mother of God will have a son who will save his people from their sins. She ended her life in the city of Jerusalem 12 years after the ascension of Christ, she was 48 years old. The death of Mary was marked by her Ascension on the third day, and at the last moment of her life Jesus Christ himself appeared to her.

Akathist is a song, or rather a genre of Orthodox church hymnography, which is performed standing. Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos can be read as part of a prayer and other services.
