The best program for adjusting the speed of the cooler

This article describes the program for adjusting the CPU cooler speed, video card and other PC elements. It does not matter whether you need to change the speed of the fans because of their excessive noise or because of overheating, SpeedFan will help in any case. The main condition for the proper functioning of the utility is the ability to adjust the coolers from the BIOS.

SpeedFan

SpeedFan is absolutely free program for adjusting the speed of the cooler of the video card, CPU and any other equipment with active cooling. The fan can be controlled in automatic or manual mode.

Before running the utility, it is desirable to disable the automatic speed change in the BIOS. If you ignore this condition, the proper functioning of the application is not guaranteed. After power-on, SpeedFan reads fan speed information and takes these values as the maximum. Hence it follows that if the BIOS settings do not allow the cooler to be unleashed to the limit, then the utility will not be able to do this either.

For example, when the SpeedFan was turned on, the CPU cooler rotated at 1000 rpm. The application will take this value as an upper limit and will not be able to increase the frequency when the CPU temperature reaches a critical level. If the computer does not automatically shut down, its CPU will fail.

First start

After launching the program to adjust the speed of the cooler draws a window with a brief help. After studying the text, check the single point and close the window. After that, it will no longer appear on the screen.

Now the program will determine which equipment has active cooling with the possibility of adjustment and counts the readings of the sensors. After that the display will automatically display the list of fan speeds and the temperature of the main elements of the PC. In addition, in the application panel you can see information about CPU usage and voltage.

To switch the language to Russian, go to the "Configure"> "Options" menu. Select the "Language" switch to "Russian". Click on "OK".

Main Window

The program for adjusting the speed of coolers in Russian displays all the information necessary for the user in separate blocks. In the middle of the window there are data describing all the found controllers of the fans. Their names are Fan2, Fan1 , etc. At the same time, the list can have a lot more coolers than there is in the PC. Opposite to some of them, the real speed of the fans will be displayed. Others will either show zero or "garbage" (less than 1000 rpm).

In contrast to the data describing the operation of the screws, there is a block of information on the temperature of the main components of the PC:

  • CPU - processor.

  • GPU is the core of the video card.

  • HD0 - hard disk.

There can also be "garbage" here. To determine which values are not real, you need to think logically. For example, the temperature of the devices in the running machine is unlikely to reach a level of 5 or 120 degrees.

This is the only drawback that the program for adjusting the speed of rotation of the cooler has not lost for all the years of development. It is worth saying that the official site offers a collection of necessary utility settings for popular PC configurations. However, it is often much faster to perform all the settings manually.

The main blocks of the utility

The utility block with the Speed01, 02 list, etc. contains the screw speed switches. It is indicated in percentages. The main task is to determine which switches from this unit are responsible for which fans.

Go to the first selector and change its value by 20-30%. Observe, the speed in front of which line "Fan" is changing. Now change the settings for the next switch. Remember or write down each match found.

If you can not identify the sensors, it makes sense to use the AIDA64 utility. Run it and SpeedFan at the same time. Change the values of the Speed switches, and in AIDA see which fans start to spin at a different speed.

Configuration

Go to the "Configuration" menu. Here you can define all the lines of the blocks in the main window clear names. For example, the CPU cooler rotation sensor is renamed to "TempCPU". To do this, click on any item in the settings, wait a second and click again. After that, the line will be highlighted, and the cursor will appear in it.

Highlight the name of the required sensor and pay attention to the bottom of the application window. Here it is necessary to write down which temperature of each PC device the program for adjusting the speed of the cooler will be considered normal. When the equipment has cooled to this level, the fan speed will be minimal. Also, specify the alarm temperature. Heating up to this level will turn on the maximum speed of the cooler.

To find out which values should be used, contact the official websites of the device manufacturers of your PC.

Now click on the "+" next to the name of the sensor. Remove all the checkmarks from the "Speed" list. Leave only the one that corresponds to the regulator of this device.

Go to the "Fans" tab and, if necessary, rename them in the same way as the sensors. Unused uncheck by unchecking the boxes.

Speed

In order for the program to adjust the speed of the cooler to perform automatic control, open the "Speeds" tab. Select the row of the desired fan and rename it as you see fit. Now pay attention to the bottom block of the window. There are two points:

  • "Minimum" - the level of the minimum speed of the cooler,

  • "Maximum" - the maximum.

All values are given in percentages. Never enter here a number equal to 100, because the fan will spin up completely when reaching the peak temperature, which was tuned earlier.

At the end of the configuration, check the box next to "Auto Edit" and click "OK."

Extra options

In addition to the above settings, the program for adjusting the speed of the cooler has additional parameters. All of them are in the "Configuration"> "Options" menu. It is impossible to describe them all in a short article, only the most necessary ones will be listed here.

A check mark opposite the text "Running minimized" will cause the program to turn on without displaying the main window. This is very useful if the utility is loaded automatically with the operating system. Without setting the checkbox, every time the OS starts, the utility window will appear on the display.

The checkbox at the "Collapse when closing" option will allow the application to continue to work, even if the user clicked the cross.

The "Full fans after exit" checkbox is necessary to prevent problems after the application is closed. If you do not note it, the program for adjusting the speed of the cooler of the notebook will leave the rotation speed of the screws at the level at which they worked when the utility was shut down. This can lead to overheating and damage to the PC.
