The best films in the genre of fantasy - a treat for filmmakers

Fantasy is the most versatile and diverse genre of cinema, because cinema is inherently fantastic! In every second movie there are episodes or moments that have no place in real life. Therefore, it is rather difficult to single out the best films in the fantasy genre.

STD and space

Pictures of the genre of "fantasy" appear in the cinema quite early in the 20-30s of the twentieth century. However, a concrete impetus for its development was the era of scientific and technological revolution and man's entry into space. New scientific achievements and trends are reflected in the films "Back to the Future", "Terminator" and, of course, "Star Wars". Unfortunately, in the Soviet and Russian cinematography the number of films of this category is not impressive. During the 1960s-1980s, the Amphibian Man, Garin's Hyperboloid, and the beloved Captain Nemo were screened, and a little later Solaris, Guest from the Future, and Stalker, these Films can qualify for the title "Best movies in the genre of fantasy" in our homeland.

A hybrid of horror and science fiction films

Sci-fi has always been in close proximity to horror films, and in the distant 50's a unique subgenre was born - a cinematic hybrid, typical examples of which include "The Invasion of Body Snatchers" (1956) and the naive "Something from Another World" (1951). An interesting fact is that the last frame of one of them read: "Look after the sky!", As if warning the earthlings about the threat of an alien invasion. Perhaps this moment was the progenitor of the following paintings: "Independence Day" (1996), "War of the Worlds", "Extraterrestrial Invasion: The Battle for Los Angeles" (2011), "Skyline" (2010) and even all three parts " Men in Black". The abundance of such films has generated all sorts of speculation, such as the fact that Hollywood deliberately prepares "soil", i.e. If suddenly the invasion starts, for the majority it will be the "norm". Maybe for this and need films in the genre of fantasy? And the idea that one day your family or acquaintances can be replaced or stolen by aliens not only became a cliche of this subgenre, but is still in use: "The Fourth Kind", "Gloomy Heaven", etc.

At the turn of the dashing 70-80-ies

In this chaotic period there are three paintings, which by right have been for more than thirty years proud title "The best films in the genre of fantasy." They spawned not only several successful sequels and prequels, but also an incredible number of imitative film-imitators. The techniques and cliché of these masterpieces are still regularly roaming from picture to picture. Unparalleled in the effectiveness and power of emotional influence, George Lucas's epic "Star Wars" is still considered, it has repeatedly confirmed its cult status. But the main achievement of this creation is that the film enriched the fantastic genre with one essential factor, it made it simply entertaining and consistent with the principles of Hollywood: unambiguous moral judgments, entertainment and simplicity. Literally two years later there is another creation - "Alien" Ridley Scott, he was gloomy and even claustrophobic, and here was another combination of fantasy with horror films. The next cult project is a futuristic thriller "Blade Runner" of the same inimitable Ridley Scott, who immediately refers to critics as "Best movies in the genre of fantasy." The picture is full of magnificent frames and incredible (for that time) special technical effects.

Fantasticity requires justification

A qualitative leap that translated fantastic films into the category of high-grade cinema art is considered to be the film of S. Kubrick "The Space Odyssey of 2001". The director did not attack the abundance of "space mutants" and "green men", he approached the film with documentary certainty, developing the theory of biological immortality and making the main villain computer. So, gradually the content of the film, the semantic load, comes to the fore in the fantastic cinema, after all, whatever one may say, all the incredibility displayed on the screen requires comments and explanations. Here you can not do with a shocking makeup and expensive special effects, decorations. Therefore, like mushrooms after the rain begin to march on the screens of the world of catastrophe films, which unambiguously make the viewer think. The list of films in the fantasy-catastrophe genre is endless: "Hurricane Hell", "Tornado", "Dante's Peak", "Earthquake", "Armageddon", "Meteorite", "Collision with the Abyss", etc.

From subgenre to high-grade art

Can I adapt the screen version of famous tales to fantasy? The question is rhetorical. Think for yourself, films like Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Alice in Wonderland, The Lord of the Rings, The Cities of Ember, The Chronicles of Narnia, Gary Potter, The Star Dust, The Golden Compass And "Maleficents" - this is a continuous fantastic fantasy. Modern screen versions make it so spectacular and exciting that both children and adults can learn something new for themselves, and some of them can be called - the best films in the genre of fantasy. Having talked about fairy tales, it would be appropriate to mention comics too, because the main character in them has a whole set of fantastic abilities. A striking example of fantasy paintings based on comic books were "Superman", "Batman", "Spiderman", "Avengers", "Iron Man", "People X" and others.

Kinozhanr fiction for a long time does not give up the position, the novelties of the cinema: "Lucy", "Transformers", "Planet of the Apes", "Excellence", "The Face of the Future" serve as a confirmation.
