Tehran - the modern capital of Iran

Tehran is the capital of Iran, a country famous for its ancient history and rich cultural heritage. There are three different versions, what does its name mean. According to one of them - this combination of the syllables of "those" and "wounds", in translating meaning the foot of the mountain, the city is really located near the slope of Mount Tochal. According to another version, the capital of Iran is named after the ancient Parthian city of Tirana. The third version tends to the fact that Tehran is translated as a "warm place".

Some sources claim that as a settlement the city existed another 14 thousand years ago, but its history is known only from the IX century. At that time it was quite an inconspicuous village. Its transformation began only in the XIII century, after the fall of the powerful Rey, then many refugees moved to Tehran. It took only 100 years to turn the city into the largest shopping center.

Tehran became the capital of Iran only in 1785. Today it is the political, administrative and cultural center of the country.
