Slate flat: sheet dimensions and technical characteristics

Flat slate is asbestos - cement slabs, manufactured by special technology. This material has a wide enough scope. Most often it is used in industrial, housing and economic construction. The technical characteristics of flat slate are quite high. Among its positive qualities - strength, durability, fire safety, ease of installation. The material is produced in different sizes, which largely depends on its type and method of application.

Production of flat slate

Since the main component in the manufacture of flat slate is asbestos, it is first necessary to tell about it. This raw material has been used for more than a hundred years in various construction sectors, with its help they produce a wide variety of designs. Asbestos is of natural origin. It is distinguished by extremely strong fibers, exceeding in strength even the steel wire. Products from it combine excellent quality and low cost.

When manufacturing flat slates, the following components are used:

  • Chrysotile-asbestos;
  • Portland cement;
  • Water.

The share of asbestos in this composition is 18%. When the sheet is formed, its fibers are evenly distributed throughout the area. They adhere well to the cement slurry and form a reinforcing mesh. Due to such a base, a flat slate, whose sheet size is determined initially during molding, has increased tensile strength, high impact strength, fire resistance and other positive qualities.

Scope of application

Flat slate has a wider range of uses than its wavy colleague. It is often used in agriculture, industrial and housing construction. With this material, formwork for the foundation and "dry screeds" are made. When building it, they erect walls using the method of sandwich panels and balcony fences. Also, flat slate, the size of the sheet which are different, suitable for roofing, exterior and interior decoration of buildings.

Quite often, slabs are used to erect fences. In agriculture from them build sheds, arbours, open-air cages, pens and other economic constructions. In the field of industry, there was also the use of flat slate. With its help, fences are erected, technical mines are lined, floors are laid. Often, from this material, various small structures are mounted, for example, shopping stalls or pavilions.

Species of flat slate

Depending on the technology of manufacturing flat slate, it is divided into two types: pressed and non-pressed. These materials differ from each other by their technical characteristics. For example, slate is a flat pressed sheet size and weight is larger than unpressed. Its strength is slightly higher, no less than the cost. The cycle of freezing and thawing of this kind of material is twice as large, and the error of linear dimensions is less. The allowable deviation for the pressed slate is 4 mm, while for the non-pressed slate 8 mm.

Differences between different types of material are also in the spheres of their application. Slate flat non-pressed, the size of the sheet is slightly smaller, used for facing buildings, installing internal partitions, arranging insulated wall panels. Pressed material is used for erection of economic structures, installation of slabs, roofs, fences.

Each type of slate is marked with different markings, for example: LP-P-3,6х1,5х8 GOST. Letters in it are deciphered as follows:

  • LP - sheet is flat;
  • NP or P - not pressed or pressed.

The numbers indicated in the marking indicate:

  • Length, width of the sheet in meters;
  • Slate thickness in millimeters.

Specifications

The technical characteristics of flat slate depend to the greatest extent on the technological equipment used in production, as well as the main component of the raw material - asbestos. In particular, the quality of the material reflects such factors:

  • Density of asbestos-cement stone;
  • Diameter and average length of fibers;
  • Chemical and mineralogical composition;
  • Fineness of grinding.

The amount of asbestos in the composition and the uniformity of distribution in the cement of its fibers also affect the slate flat. Sheet size, technical characteristics and other material properties depend on its type. More details can be found in the comparative table:

Positive properties of flat slate

Slate is flat, the dimensions of the sheet are different, and the technical characteristics are quite high, it is widely used in a wide variety of construction sectors. This is due to a set of positive qualities that distinguish this material among others like it:

  • Reliability and hardness;
  • Resistance to corrosion and rot;
  • Protection from ultraviolet and magnetic radiation;
  • Resistance to atmospheric factors;
  • Frost resistance;
  • Fire safety;
  • Low coefficient of temperature deformation;
  • Noise insulation;
  • durability;
  • Economy;
  • Simplicity of processing and installation;
  • Low price.

Asbestos-cement products have high strength. They calmly withstand the weight of a person. This quality is characterized as wavy material, and slate is flat. Sheet dimensions, wave and other variations in strength are not affected.

Negative material qualities

Flat slate, in addition to numerous advantages, has some drawbacks.

  • The presence of asbestos in the composition of the material affects its environmental friendliness. To protect yourself when working with flat slate, you should use respiratory protection.
  • Due to poor water resistance, the material may become covered with moss during use. To avoid this, when cutting and laying it should be treated with special tools.
  • Slate flat sheet sizes are impressive, so it weighs a lot. For example, a plate with dimensions of 1.75x1.12 m and a thickness of 8 mm has a weight of about 30 kg. This provokes difficulties in the transportation and laying of the material.

Dimensions of asbestos-cement sheets

Slate flat sheet size can have a different. All plates have a rectangular shape. Deviations from geometric dimensions are possible, but not more than 5 mm. Weight depends on the size and type of material. Possible options are listed in the table:

Flat slate is a remarkable material widely used in construction. When choosing it, you should pay attention to the marking in order to purchase a product whose qualities are ideal for you.
