Sinus bradycardia. Is it dangerous?

Bradycardia is a kind of disturbance of the heart rhythm, expressed in a drop in the frequency of heart beat below 55 bpm. In some cases, such a decrease in frequency is not a pathology, but serves as a natural reaction of the organism to the processes occurring in it. For example, heartbeat slows down during sleep or after taking certain medications. However, most often bradycardia is the loss of a sinus node the possibility of generating electrical impulses in the normal mode.

Causes

Violations in the sinus node and the conduction system of the heart can be caused by a number of different diseases. These include diseases of the cardiovascular system such as myocarditis, coronary atherosclerosis, cardiosclerosis, ischemic disease, post-infarct scars. Sinus bradycardia of the heart can also be caused by disturbances in the work of the autonomic nervous system, severe infections or endocrine diseases.

Varieties of bradycardia

Depending on the causes of emergence, the following varieties are distinguished:

  1. Medicinal bradycardia. Slowing down the rhythm is manifested after taking such medications as Obzidan, Anaprilin, Verapamil, Kordaron, Quinidine.
  2. Neurogenic bradycardia is a decrease in rhythm against a background of increased tone of the parasympathetic department, neuroses, depressions, hypertension, and also in conditions of increased intracranial pressure.
  3. Toxic bradycardia is a consequence of infectious diseases. For example, typhoid fever, viral hepatitis, influenza, or sepsis.
  4. Endocrine bradycardia is a disease caused by excess oxygen, potassium and calcium in the blood.
  5. Cardiogenic organic. This variety
    Is manifested with myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, myocarditis, cardiosclerosis.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

When the diagnosis is made, the records of the electrocardiogram are of paramount importance. The doctor is assigned ECG monitoring and other types of examination, depending on the results of the patient's examination. The primary symptom in diagnosing is a drop in the rhythm of the heartbeat below 55 bpm. The following symptoms may serve as additional signs of the disease:

  • heartache;
  • Instability of blood pressure;
  • Fatigue, fatigue;
  • dizziness;
  • Fainting.

Treatment

Violations of the normal operation of the sinus node can lead to serious consequences. In some cases, cardiac arrest is not excluded . Preventive measures and treatment of the disease are aimed at preventing the consequences to which sinus bradycardia leads. Symptoms of manifestation of this pathology allow the doctor to understand the degree of node damage. If the fall in the rhythm is not accompanied by pain, fainting or other additional symptoms, treatment may not be required. In those cases when the diagnosis showed its necessity, it should first of all be aimed at the underlying disease, which led to the appearance of a bradycardia. In addition, drug therapy is used to restore the normal heart rate . In the most severe cases, an implantation of a pacemaker is possible.
