Signal road: description, types and features

The organization of safe traffic involves the installation of signal objects in various designs. Columns as an element of the marking infrastructure occupy a special place in this group. They are installed on public roads and serve as a kind of pointers to the boundaries of different areas of use. In this case, the traffic bar can differ in size characteristics, be made of different materials, and also have a special color design.

Assignment of a signal column in the road infrastructure

The general purpose of this element of road construction is to provide visual orientation of drivers. In this case, each modification serves for use on a particular site. For example, models with white cases are designed for installation on the roadside. The peculiarities of such models include the presence of inclined marking and the retroreflective element KD1. Directly on the roadways, a P-shaped road post with an orange or red body is installed. Such modifications can be found on the islands of security and the dividing strip. Other column designs are included in the described groups, but have less noticeable differences.

Features of the signal road casing

Virtually all column models are made of materials that have an impact-resistant viscosity sufficient for street use. Concrete versions are calculated on the possibility of physical counteraction to transport, while others serve exclusively to inform the participants of the movement. These include the signal road plastic posts, which also suggest the possibility of rapid dismantling without the use of special equipment. Moreover, the body of plastic objects of this type is initially calculated for the destruction, bending or deflection from the support part during the collisions. Regardless of the material of manufacture, the upper part of the body has a triangular or rectangular cross-section with rounded corners.

Wooden bollards are also used. Usually they are made of coniferous species that grow in territorial areas of direct exploitation. By the way, wooden models are considered the most affordable in terms of hard supports - they can be purchased on average for 300-400 rubles. Another thing is that the signal roadblock, the price of which does not exceed 500 rubles, usually does not have high longevity indicators.

Main characteristics

In this segment there is no strict standardization of models. The variety of modifications causes a wide range of shapes and size parameters, which, however, are regulated by GOST. So, in height, the average range is 750-1000 mm. The thickness is a more general parameter and is most often 100 mm. The marking stripes on the surface of the case have different formats, not to mention the color versions. The thickness of the signal lines of color varies from 40 to 250 mm. In this case, the strips can have both vertical and horizontal, as well as oblique direction. For installation, metal pins are also provided, which hold the posts. Signal road plastic supports can have bearing rods of about 50 cm in length. For reinforced concrete models, a foundation is often envisaged, corresponding to possible mechanical loads during collisions.

Varieties of columns

The main characteristic of classification is the material of manufacture. It has already been noted that there are reinforced concrete, plastic and wooden buildings. In the class of plastic models, a flexible roadblock has also become widespread, which is characterized by low cost and ease of installation. However, such modifications are often used as a temporary signal object.

By design, the bars are divided into simple and composite. The former are based on a monolithic base without additional inclusions. In turn, the composite road post is a prefabricated structure, into which special retention devices can also be included. Plastic models in some modifications refer to composite signal supports and are manufactured from different composite alloys and fillers.

Requirements for marking a column

For different categories of columns, individual markup is intended. So, on the model, which turn towards the approaching transport, a vertically directed marking of black color is added, supplemented with a retroreflector. The body of the column, which has a bevel in the upper region, is formed with an inclined black strip, the width of which can vary from 150 to 250 mm. Models with a cross-section in the form of a ring, circle or arc also receive a horizontal black strip 100 mm wide. It is important to take into account that a two-sided painting is practiced, which covers universal road posts. GOST under number P 50970-96 notes that the retroreflector is applied only on one side - in the direction of the oncoming transport.

Protective Coating Columns

In addition to the fact that the body of the column must meet the requirements of mechanical resistance, the outer surfaces also receive protective layers. They are calculated to counteract negative climatic factors. And resistant to moisture and temperature influence coatings are often combined with the markup itself. As a rule, these are special paints, performing both the functions of signaling information, and acting as a barrier to external influences. The most demanding of such protection are wooden posts, which, without special impregnation, are easily subjected to biological destruction. Therefore, the road column made of sawn timber is additionally covered with hot bitumen throughout the depth of its immersion in the subgrade. In addition, technologists also take into account the adverse effects of plastic housings. Manufacturers develop special compositions of the same composites that ensure the object's resistance to external factors, but also meet the requirements of environmental safety.

Rules of operation

The placement of road signs is carried out in accordance with the rules of construction. In particular, the standards require that signal objects of this type be installed within the boundaries of an unfortified curb zone 35 cm from the edge of the land cover. If a column intended for the dividing strip is used, its location is determined in accordance with the rules for installing road barriers. In this case, all models with the presence of bevels are placed in such a way that the side of the cut faces the roadway. Reinforced concrete objects are fixed by means of a foundation base, and plastic road posts are integrated in depth by means of metal rods on average by 50-70 cm. This value can be reduced if additional anchoring fasteners are used.

Conclusion

Road pillars perform a responsible task, informing drivers about the directions of traffic. Manufacturers strive to develop more and more effective means of delivering a visual signal. Despite the introduction of high-tech control systems on the roads, this type of traditional indexes is still in demand. This is facilitated by the low cost, which is realized by the road plastic post. The price of such objects is only 200-300 rubles. Of course, reinforced concrete models are available for a higher cost, which can reach 1-1.5 thousand, depending on the modification. As far as this means of indicating the road is effective, it depends on the characteristics of the concrete specimen, and on the correctness of its installation.
