Sights of Gagry (Abkhazia), or We do not need a Turkish shore

Located on the south-eastern coast of the Black Sea is a small, but very picturesque country of Abkhazia. The first city that meets tourists in the north of the region is Gagra. These peculiar "gates" to the country of the sun and sea breeze can surprise with a variety of incredibly beautiful places. Attractions of Gagra (Abkhazia) attract a lot of tourists to the resort every year.

Seaside Park

A wonderful seaside park was built in the city in 1902-1905 by the architect Shervinsky. It presents rare varieties of exotic plants, so it creates the feeling that you are in the Garden of Eden: dates and coconut palms, magnolias, Syrian mallow, cedar and many others. In total there are about 1000 plants in the park.

A charming tropical garden, of course, is not all that this resort is attractive for. Sights of Gagry Abkhazia reveals at every step - it will be more interesting later!

The fortress of Abaat

In the IV-V centuries on the territory of modern Gagra, at the mouth of the river Joëvara, the Romans built a rectangular fortress-castel. In the XI century the fortress walls were almost completely disassembled. For its restoration and some reconstruction in 1830, the Russian military detachment began. Even today, here you can clearly see weapons and cannon loopholes, powerful bastions.

Perhaps, the attractions of Gagra Abkhazia can expose in contrast to the glory of such popular countries as Turkey and Egypt.

Gagra temple

Of particular interest is another place, which is located in the center of the fortress - the Gagra temple. The architecture of the temple is somewhat different from the characteristic features of the early medieval style of Abkhazia. Outside, the building looks quite simple. Inside the wall made of slabs with an almost untreated surface produce some harsh, even wild, impression. Now in the walls of the temple operates a museum of weapons.

Khashup Fortress

Do you think that the sights of Gagry Abkhazia are exhausted? No matter how it is! If we are talking about ancient buildings, we recommend visiting one more place - Khashup Fortress. In the colorful gorge of the river Hashups, a mountain rises, at the very top of which the ruins of a large fortress of the medieval period of Abkhazia are preserved. Its territory is divided into two tiers. From the fortress you can admire the fascinating panorama of the Gagra ridge with water meadows and fir forests.

Mamzysh Mountain

The mountain Mamzyshha is majestic, rises above the city by 1,876 meters. At the beginning of the 20th century, a winding Alpine road was laid on top of the mountain. On this road there are two sites, from where you can admire a fantastically beautiful view. At the top of Mamzyshy you can see the sea, the mountain ranges, Pitsunda at the same time, and if you contemplate the panorama from the top at night, then far away the lights of distant Sochi are visible.

Near Mamzishi there is another no less interesting peak - Arabica, which is famous for its large number of caves. In the depths of this mountain is the deepest karst cave on the planet - the famous cave of Kruber.

Geg waterfall

But even on this amazing places did not end, because on the whole Black Sea coast it is difficult to find a better resort than Abkhazia - Gagra. Attractions can be seen in the vicinity of the city. Visit the delightful Geg waterfall, which is located on the northern spurs of the Gagra mountain range. By the way, it was near this waterfall that a fight was fought between the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and the evil professor Moriarty.

Despite its unique climate and numerous beautiful places, tourists, unfortunately, are not in a hurry to see what Abkhazia (Gagry) is like. Rest here is filled with peace and unforgettable sensations. The situation is calm, the prices are fairly democratic, and the sea is clean. Come, it will be fun!
