From the biography of the athlete it is known that he was born in the family of ordinary people working professions. The father was born in the village of Ulyanka, after graduating from the Moscow factory, he worked as a factory fitter.

Despite the fundamentally different direction in life, Victor Nikiforovich was also a respected man, a leader and became a member of the Moscow Workers' Council, which can also be called a consequence of managerial talent and the ability to get along with people. These qualities were also inherent in Chernov Junior.

The coach's mother was an accountant at the Krasny Oktyabr confectionery factory. But the greater influence on the education of Sergei had a grandmother. The sportsman graduated from the 540th school, where he often liked to observe the training of basketball players of the local section. The attempt to get into the team failed because of the small age of the student.

But after 2 years, the boy remembered the coach was invited to the basketball section Y. Ya. Ravinsky, being already a player of the youth football school. In the future, Sergei still combined the two sports, until finally decided to choose basketball.

A short career as an athlete

Soon, Sergei became captain of the basketball team of the Moskvoretsky school of sports. He also played for the junior team, along with him on the field went out such famous players today as Belov Alexander and Merciful Valery. Soon the talented young man gets the title of master of sports, but the sports career was not so long.

As early as 18 years, a further way to the sport was blocked by a meniscus injury and ruptured ligament. This was a difficult test, which forced the young man to review all plans for the future. So the sport left the player Sergei Chernov, basketball in return received a promising coach. When the Union broke up and the Federation was abolished, Chernov was offered to become a coach again in the team abroad, this time in Kuwait, but he only managed to assemble his coaching team when he was appointed to the position of the head of the economic and financial division of the Russian Sports Federation.

Reforms in basketball and their happy consequences

Immediately the Higher School of Basketball Coaches was opened. Under the guidance of the head, seminars are organized for coaches of children's teams, which are designed to solve the problem of training young talents.

Young sportsmen also organized a youth basketball association (IBA), which includes children aged 12-13. For this huge contribution to the sports education of the youth, the title "Excellent worker in physical culture and sports" as well as signs of the government for merits before sports culture was received by Sergey Chernov. The photo of an outstanding coach always shows him as an open man, no doubt in his place.

Corruption scandal and withdrawal from the post

In an effort to change the Russian basketball for the better, one problem still was not solved by Chernov - the poor performance of judges in some Super League games. In May 2010, an audio recording was released before the match between Dynamo Moscow and Lokomotiv-Kuban, which Led to a major corruption scandal.

Sergei Viktorovich decided to leave the post of executive director of the basketball Super League. Soon, the Superleague A itself was liquidated because of the exit of the top 10 clubs from it and the Department organizing and conducting the Russian championship was created. And in the fall of 2010, Sergey Viktorovich left the presidency because of his active work in the central office of FIBA, where he still works.
