Youth and the first steps in sport
Unsurpassed results Sergei Chernov has achieved as an outstanding manager in the world of sports. Children's same years passed with him as with most children of that time. From the biography of the athlete it is known that he was born in the family of ordinary people working professions. The father was born in the village of Ulyanka, after graduating from the Moscow factory, he worked as a factory fitter.
Despite the fundamentally different direction in life, Victor Nikiforovich was also a respected man, a leader and became a member of the Moscow Workers' Council, which can also be called a consequence of managerial talent and the ability to get along with people. These qualities were also inherent in Chernov Junior.
The coach's mother was an accountant at the Krasny Oktyabr confectionery factory. But the greater influence on the education of Sergei had a grandmother. The sportsman graduated from the 540th school, where he often liked to observe the training of basketball players of the local section. The attempt to get into the team failed because of the small age of the student.
But after 2 years, the boy remembered the coach was invited to the basketball section Y. Ya. Ravinsky, being already a player of the youth football school. In the future, Sergei still combined the two sports, until finally decided to choose basketball.
A short career as an athlete
Soon, Sergei became captain of the basketball team of the Moskvoretsky school of sports. He also played for the junior team, along with him on the field went out such famous players today as Belov Alexander and Merciful Valery. Soon the talented young man gets the title of master of sports, but the sports career was not so long.
As early as 18 years, a further way to the sport was blocked by a meniscus injury and ruptured ligament. This was a difficult test, which forced the young man to review all plans for the future. So the sport left the player Sergei Chernov, basketball in return received a promising coach. In the student body, in 1969, Chernov was offered to become the mentor of the then president of the basketball Federation of the USSR Semashko N.V. Thus, a new assistant coach appears in the team "Burevestnik".
The first successful coaching abroad
Already a full-fledged coach took up Chernov after graduating from the institute in 1972. He trained more than 15 masters of sports in the position of the coach of the Youth Sports School, among them 5 athletes corresponded to international standards, and 4 players of women's national basketball teams were among the winners of the championships at the European and world level. Since 1980, he began to replace the director of the same Youth.
In 1983, Chernov signed a contract, according to which he became the head coach of the men's national team of Mauritania. Under the guidance of the new coach athletes in a couple of months won the African championship. Immediately he created a junior team and opened children's clubs in basketball.

A year later his team got to the world championship, and the trainer was offered the position of Union Gostrener. In a new role Sergei Viktorovich led the team to receive gold from the Olympics. This was the peak of the coaching career of Chernov.
1991 was marked by the receipt of a new post of vice president of the Basketball Federation of the Soviet Union and its executive director. When the Union broke up and the Federation was abolished, Chernov was offered to become a coach again in the team abroad, this time in Kuwait, but he only managed to assemble his coaching team when he was appointed to the position of the head of the economic and financial division of the Russian Sports Federation.
Reforms in basketball and their happy consequences
Since 1993, and the place of the executive director was also taken by Sergei Chernov. The RSF won 8 times the title in Europe and 12 times the prize places in the world. With his hands in 1994, the Higher, First and Men's Superleague were founded, and then in the 96th female and in 2003 the children's.
Thanks to the changes in Chernoff domestic basketball really became professional. Famous players from the world teams consider it prestigious to play for Russian clubs, and the National Championship has earned recognition and prestige among clubs in Europe and the world. The CSKA club always falls into the prestigious "Final Four" of the European League of ULEB.
Victory in the world arena
Under Chernov CSKA in 2006 returned the Euroleague Cup, and this after a 35-year break. An unprecedented success was achieved by the St. Petersburg "Dynamo", that of the newcomer became the owner of the European Cup in 2005. In the list of achievements of the national basketball there are also the "Silver Basket", the Northern League Cup, the European Cup, which won "Spartacus", and the Challenge Cup.
However, not only sport achievements have become pleasant consequences of Chernov's activity as head. A lot of modern basketball arenas, sports centers, palaces and other institutions were built. The idea of publishing the sports periodical "The Planet of Basketball" also belonged to Sergei Viktorovich.
From 2006 to 2010, Sergei Chernov also combines his presidency with membership in the FIBA commission at world competitions. Since 2008, he begins to chair the council of the VTB United League, which he sees as a possible substitute for the Super League.
With all his active sports activities, in 2006 Chernov also became a doctor (academic title) of pedagogical sciences, and was elected head of the teaching department of the basketball theory and methodology of RGUFKiT. Immediately the Higher School of Basketball Coaches was opened. Under the guidance of the head, seminars are organized for coaches of children's teams, which are designed to solve the problem of training young talents.
Young sportsmen also organized a youth basketball association (IBA), which includes children aged 12-13. For this huge contribution to the sports education of the youth, the title "Excellent worker in physical culture and sports" as well as signs of the government for merits before sports culture was received by Sergey Chernov. The photo of an outstanding coach always shows him as an open man, no doubt in his place.
Corruption scandal and withdrawal from the post
In an effort to change the Russian basketball for the better, one problem still was not solved by Chernov - the poor performance of judges in some Super League games. In May 2010, an audio recording was released before the match between Dynamo Moscow and Lokomotiv-Kuban, which Led to a major corruption scandal.
Sergei Viktorovich decided to leave the post of executive director of the basketball Super League. Soon, the Superleague A itself was liquidated because of the exit of the top 10 clubs from it and the Department organizing and conducting the Russian championship was created. And in the fall of 2010, Sergey Viktorovich left the presidency because of his active work in the central office of FIBA, where he still works.
