Scooter-maxi: comfortable and economical means of transportation on two wheels

The first scooters appeared during the Second World War, when infantry allied forces began to need light vehicles for the redeployment of personnel. Heavy motorcycles, which were used in the army of the United States and Britain, were supplied in limited quantities, besides, they were too expensive.

History of appearance

In 1942 the American firm Cushman Company established a serial production of constructively simple scooters with engine capacity of 123 cc / cm. The car was called scooter, which literally means "swiftly escaping".

After the war, the Italian Enrico Piaggio on the basis of a military and already unnecessary scooter created a new modification of the scooter, which he called Vespa. This was the beginning of mass production of scooters for general use. Gradually, an easy, comfortable car began to be produced all over the world, Japanese, German manufacturers (BMWs), Italians, French and Swedes took up the job.

Quite a logical result of the mass production of scooters was the appearance of a modification of the "scooter-maxi", a heavy two-seater motor scooter with a powerful engine, reinforced running gear and good speed characteristics. The car quickly gained popularity and in a short time ousted its lighter brethren from the market.

Modernity

Scooter-maxi is designed for young bikers, who are accustomed to "cut" through the city streets. The only inconvenience to the owners of a powerful machine was the mandatory use of a helmet. This equipment suited very few people, but there was a law that did not allow the operation of models from the category "scooter-maxi" without protective equipment.

The need to use a helmet was regulated by the engine's engine capacity. On a car with a motor up to 125 cc / cm wearing a protective helmet was optional. The volume of the cylinder, exceeding this norm, assumed the use of a helmet. Traffic police strictly monitored compliance with the law, violators fined or temporarily selected the car.

Opportunities for long trips

Scooter-maxi is considered a tourist vehicle because there is a luggage compartment under the seat, and in the front part of the body is mounted a special grid with springs, reliably holding several kilograms of cargo. The machine is well balanced, do not think about the distribution of cargo.

Maxi-scooter, reviews about which have always been mostly positive, is a convenient and reliable car for short and long trips. A small fuel consumption (about 3.5 liters per 100 km) allows a distance of 400 kilometers without refueling.

Maxi scooter "Yamaha"

One of the most popular scooters of Japanese production is "Yamaha X-Max 500". The machine is characterized by aggressive design and good dynamics. The engine is low-noise, the cycling of the exhaust is almost imperceptible, only an even, restrained hum is heard. Under the seat of the scooter is a large trunk, in which you can lay up to ten kilograms of different things. The cavity is well ventilated from below by streams of counter air.

The engine is two-cylinder, four-stroke, with water cooling:

  • Working volume - 530 cubic cm;
  • Power - 35 hp At a speed of 6750 rpm;
  • Torque - 52.3 Nm at 5250 rpm;
  • Diameter of the cylinder - 68 mm;

Megascuter "Suzuki"

In 2003, Suzuki introduced the new Suzuki Sky Wave 650 Burgman. It was the latest Suzuki maxi scooter with a very powerful engine and a lot of electric drives that regulate the position of the side mirrors, the height and angle of the windscreen. The machine was equipped with an antilock braking system ABS, an automatic variator of the V-belt design. If necessary, it was possible to translate the machine into manual speed switching.

Dimension and weight parameters:

  • Length of scooter - 2260 mm;
  • Height - 1435 mm;
  • Width - 810 mm;
  • Height along the seat line - 750 mm;
