Pneumosclerosis: what is it, and how is it treated?
Diseases such as pneumonia and sclerosis (or at least their names) are known to most people. But today it is quite often possible to hear the diagnosis of "pneumosclerosis". What is it, and how is this disease treated? Understand this issue.
Scientific definition
According to the information published in the reference books, pneumosclerosis is a disease characterized by the fact that the inflammatory or dystrophic process in the lung tissues leads to the replacement of typical connective pulmonary tissue. This process is pathological. But this is not all, hiding behind the definition of "pneumosclerosis." What is this in terms of impact on the body? In fact, the development of this disease leads to the fact that the body does not receive enough oxygen, because the bronchi begin to thicken, change shape, and lung tissues lose elasticity. The deeper the process affected the organs, the more violated gas exchange in the affected tissues. As a result, the lungs become much smaller, as if wrinkled.
Pneumosclerosis: what is it, or types of disease
This pathology can proceed in different ways. For proper diagnosis and treatment, you should be aware that such information about the disease is important:
- Prevalence of the process;
- localization;
- A factor that triggered the development of the disease.
Doctors unequivocally speak about such disease, as a pneumosclerosis, what is it such phenomenon which demands extremely careful diagnostics. Only in this case it is possible to promise a favorable outcome.
So, relatively innocuous can be called a local (in other words, limited, focal) pneumosclerosis. Clearly, in this case, not the whole organ is affected, but only its part, which does not affect the general condition of the patient. What is more difficult is the diffuse variety. This means that either one lung is completely affected, or both. The process of ventilation is seriously disturbed.
It is very important for doctors and what lung structures are mostly affected. In accordance with this, experts say, describing pneumosclerosis, that this is a phenomenon that can be:
- Peribronchial;
- Alveolar;
- Interstitial,
- Perilobular;
- Perivascular.
This pathology can be caused by different causes: frequent colds, pneumonia, chronic inhalation of poisonous substances, tuberculosis, mechanical damage to the lungs, exposure to radiation, etc.
Pneumosclerosis: treatment is possible?
Of course, you can cure this disease. The key to success is timely diagnostics. To do this, a doctor with suspicion of pneumosclerosis may prescribe a scan on a tomograph, bronchography, radiography.
Note that with this disease in the card, you can find the word "emphysema". Pneumosclerosis is often accompanied by this phenomenon. Do not assume that these are two completely different processes, they are interrelated, and a competent doctor will be able to eliminate their manifestations.
Typically, to relieve the patient of pneumosclerosis, treatment with antibiotics, mucolytics, potassium preparations, glycosides and other drugs is prescribed. Very important is the tempering of the body. It is necessary to understand that only the doctor chooses the treatment tactics! Not always a panacea is an antibiotic or bronchoalveolar lavage! Therefore, as soon as violations are found in the state of health - immediately it is worth going to a doctor who will help to forget about this disease!
